SUMMARY:
The Buyer is responsible for procuring supplies, equipment, and services to support hospital operations. This position
ensures that purchases are cost-effective, timely, and compliant with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
The Buyer works closely with clinical and non-clinical departments to meet patient care and operational needs while
maintaining strong vendor relationships and supporting the overall supply chain strategy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Initiates and processes purchase orders accurately and in a timely manner.
• Monitors vendor performance, resolves discrepancies, and addresses supply issues promptly.
• Serves as a liaison between vendors and departments for back orders and substitutions.
• Assists with back order and emergency order management to limit inventory disruptions.
• Maintains organized records of capital, service agreement and equipment trials.
• Collaborates with department leaders to forecast supply needs and ensure adequate inventory levels.
• Ensures purchases comply with hospital policies, budget guidelines, and regulatory standards.
• Maintains accurate purchasing records, contracts, and vendor files.
• Coordinates with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice discrepancies
• Works closely with all departments to handle all emergency orders.
• Participates in supply chain improvement initiatives, cost reduction projects, and product standardization efforts.
• Evaluates vendor quotations and product options to ensure best value in cost, quality, and service.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of medical supplies, equipment, and healthcare purchasing processes.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills.
• Proficiency in purchasing or ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and recommend solutions.
• Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
• Provides excellent customer service to internal stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High school diploma or GED
• Two (2) years of purchasing, procurement, or supply chain experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of hire
