Location: This position is VIRTUAL. The candidate can work remotely but they MUST live within 100 miles of Lexington, MA.

About the Role:

Aquila Technology is seeking a SoftwareDeveloper to join our team in supporting one of the country's premier defense research organizations. We are seeking a highly skilled Software Developer with expertise in real-time programming using C or C++ to join our team. This role focuses on developing and optimizing link layer software in a Linux environment to support high-performance RF communication systems for critical applications.

Degree Level: Bachelor's Degree

4 years - Software/Algorithm Development

4 years - Background with Link Layer/Mac protocols

4 years - C/C++ Programming

4 years - Development experience on a Linux platform

4 years - Object Oriented Software Design and Development

4 years - Software Design/Development

4 years - Unix/Linux Shell Scripts

2 years - Communication Systems

4 years - Embedded, real-time system deployment, test, and debug

4 years - Hardware and Software Integration

Digital and Wireless Radio/Communications Technology

Network Experience (e.g. routing, switching and TCP/IP protocol)

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and maintain link layer software for real-time systems.

Implement and optimize algorithms for data transmission and communication protocols.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate software components into larger systems.

Debug and resolve issues in real-time software applications.

Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code adhering to best practices.

Conduct performance analysis and tuning to ensure system reliability and efficiency.

Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback.

Required Qualifications:

Proficiency in real-time programming using C or C++.

Strong understanding of link layer protocols and communication systems.

Experience in Linux environments, including shell scripting and system tools.

Solid debugging and troubleshooting skills for real-time applications.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of wireless communications concepts (e.g., capacity analysis, modulation and coding, initial access, multiple access, multi-antenna techniques, ad hoc networking).

Familiarity with IP networking and cross-layer networking protocols (e.g., DLEP).

Experience with Python for scripting, automation, or supplementary development tasks.

Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and collaborative development workflows.

Experience with performance profiling and optimization tools.

Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) - Team members are eligible for reimbursement of up to $1,500 every three (3) years for the purchase of electronic equipment used to access corporate services. To qualify for this benefit, employees must have completed a minimum of six (6) months of employment and must agree to and sign the Device Minimum Configuration Form prior to reimbursement. Electronic devices eligible under the Buy Your Own Device (BYOD) program are limited to cell phones, laptops, and tablets.

Clearance Level: Interim clearance is acceptable for start.

Work Schedule/Location: Candidate should expect to be onsite 2 days/wk with the remaining days remote.

Interview process: initial prescreen via phone/zoom; second round will be an onsite interview for local candidates; the team will consider zoom for relocation candidates.
