Position Summary:
The Small Engine Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small engines, outdoor power equipment, and related machinery. This position ensures equipment is serviced to manufacturer standards, meets safety requirements, and is returned to customers in a timely and professional manner.
Position Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair problems and/or failures in a wide variety of equipment (e.g. pumps, concrete mixers, walk behind saws, power tools, generators, trowels, concrete drills, etc.) to identify equipment and/or system repair and replacement needs.
Clean, sharpen, and lubricate a variety of motorized equipment to ensure units are operating safely and correctly.
Perform routine and preventive maintenance.
Maintain tools and/or equipment to ensure the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
Inform Service Manager regarding procedures and/or status of work.
Coordinate with other mechanics to complete projects/work orders efficiently.
Demonstrate proper equipment use for customer.
Deliver and demonstrate equipment to customer on the job site.
Assist in the setup of equipment on the job site as needed.
Assist in general warehouse operations as needed.
Perform other job duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications (Required):
Mechanical and electrical experience/knowledge
Clean driving record
Ability to maneuver tow behind trailers and equipment
Ability to operate a forklift
High school diploma or GED required; vocational/technical certification in small engine repair preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience in small engine repair, maintenance, or related field.
Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
Basic computer skills for repair documentation and parts ordering.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
Ability to perform physical demands of the position.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance.
Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, and reaching (100% of the workday).
Manual dexterity to handle tools, parts, and small engine components.
Ability to work in varying conditions including exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and outdoor weather.
Visual acuity sufficient to inspect parts and equipment, detect defects, and perform precision repairs.
Hearing ability to diagnose equipment sounds and communicate effectively in a shop environment.
Work Environment:
Work is primarily performed in a repair shop setting with regular exposure to machinery, tools, and equipment. May occasionally be required to perform field service at customer locations. Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required (safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, etc.).
