The College of Education and Human Ecology’s Center on Education and Training for Employment (CETE) Post-Doctoral Scholar will support the center’s new research and development program in “Artificial Intelligence in Education & Training.” This position reports to the director of CETE and is intended to expand the center’s capacity in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The postdoctoral scholar will collaborate with CETE researchers to publish in peer-reviewed journals and practitioners journals, and to pursue grants and high-impact research projects.
The postdoctoral scholar will receive structured training and mentored experiences that prepare them for future roles in university-based research centers, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and applied research settings. In alignment with CETE’s mission, the scholar will engage in translational research activities that (a) generate knowledge, (b) translate findings to real-world practice, and (c) contribute to policy-relevant insights. This line of work aligns closely with the College’s and University’s commitment to advancing AI literacy and fluency. It extends that commitment beyond traditional academic programs into workforce development, fostering innovation and real-world impact in keeping with Ohio State’s land-grant mission.
This position provides opportunities to:
• Contribute to the development of CETE’s emerging research and development agenda in Artificial Intelligence in Education & Training.
• Conduct research that bridges scholarship, design, implementation, and evaluation in authentic educational and workforce settings.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across CETE, the College, and the University.
• Develop practice-based and scholarly products and grant proposals that strengthen CETE’s portfolio of AI-related research and development.
• Gain mentored experience in applied research, project development, external funding, dissemination, and stakeholder engagement.
• Prepare project reports and present findings.
• Provide educational sessions and professional learning opportunities for CETE staff and project partners.
• Engage in national professional networks related to AI in education and training.
Required Experience:
Demonstrated knowledge of research methods applicable to education, training, workforce development, or related contexts. Evidence of scholarly writing and dissemination potential, including peer-reviewed publications, conference presentations, reports, or other research products. Experience using generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, NotebookLM, and Gemini. Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary and collaborative environments.
Required Education: PhD from an accredited college or university in Educational Technology, Learning Technologies, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field. Required completion of PhD prior to start date.
Desired Experience:
Experience conducting research related to artificial intelligence in education, training, learning technologies, digital learning, workforce development, or human-computer technology design. Experience with translation, applied, or design-based research. Experience with data analysis software and digital research tools.

Research & Development in AI in Education and Training
Conduct research and development activities that support CETE’s AI in Education and Training program. This includes reviewing literature; identifying emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges; designing and supporting empirical and design-based studies; contributing to the development of prototypes, tools, frameworks, and resources; and helping translate research findings into practical applications for education, training, and workforce development contexts.
Support qualitative, quantitative, and/or mixed-methods data collection and analysis for research and development projects. Contribute to applied research activities, interpretation of findings, and preparation of evidence-based recommendations for internal and external audiences

Practice-based and Scholarly Products, Reporting, and Dissemination
Develop practice-based and scholarly as well as professional products that advance CETE’s visibility and impact. This includes contributing to peer-reviewed journal manuscripts, conference proposals, technical reports, white papers, research briefs, presentations, and other dissemination materials for academic, practitioner, and policy audiences.

Grant Proposal Development
Contribute to the development of internal and external funding proposals aligned with CETE’s AI in Education & Training program. Duties include identifying funding opportunities, conducting background research, assisting with narrative development, drafting proposal sections, preparing supporting materials, and collaborating with CETE leadership and program teams on proposal planning.

Project Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with CETE researchers, staff, faculty, graduate students, and external partners on AI-related projects. Engage with stakeholders to understand needs, support project implementation, gather feedback, and contribute to the co-development of research-informed and practice-oriented solutions.

Professional Development and Service
Participate in structured mentoring and professional development activities designed to prepare the scholar for future leadership in research and development settings. Contribute to center-wide initiatives, meetings, and other activities that support CETE’s mission and strategic priorities.
