Description: For Extended School Year 06/29 - 08/06, M-Th: Interpreting and/or transliterating of English and signed concepts to any necessary specialized vocabulary. Must have a solid foundation and knowledge in American Sign Language (ASL). Experience working with students at the K-2 level and experience working with students with autism preferred. Responsible for providing communication access through sign language in a wide range of instructional models. Serves as an integral member of the educational team. The intervener/communication facilitator helps the student gather information, learn concepts and skills, develop communication and language helping them gain access to information and communication in the classroom and facilitating their social development and emotional well-being. Work under the direction and supervision of the special education teacher and teacher of the Deaf.

Qualifications: Qualifying score of 3.0 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Proficiency Assessment (EIPA). Proof of licensure is in good standing and following Code of Professional Conduct. B.A. level interpreter training program preferred. Maine Department of Education valid fingerprinting and CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) approval.

Maine State Law requires ALL school employees to be fingerprinted and pass a Criminal History Record Check (CHRC). A copy of your CHRC MUST be uploaded as part of your application to be considered.
