The Macon R-1 School District is seeking Special Education SOAR Paraprofessional for the remainder of the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school year.

Minimum Qualifications:

Employment will be contingent upon a satisfactory background check and fingerprint check by the Missouri State Highway Patrol

Must maintain a minimum of a DESE issued Substitute Certificate.

Regular, consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.

Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information about children and their families in accordance with Board policy and the law.

Must be able to reach, stand, squat, kneel, crouch, bend, walk, climb, sit, grasp, and use repetitive movements in this role regularly.

Must be able to frequently lift over 20 pounds and occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 pounds.

Must have the ability to concentrate in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously to be able to supervise students visibly and audibly.

Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.

Be able to work with students, faculty, and the general public in a diplomatic, friendly manner.

Essential Job Functions:

Actively supervise students, to include moving through the school building, classrooms, sidewalks, playgrounds, etc. while working with students.

May be required to supervise multiple students during pick-up and drop-off, in the lunch room, on the playground, and in multiple settings in the school environment.

May be required to perform physical restraint on students who are in an imminent threat of harm to themselves or others, as trained by the District.

Must be able to assist special education teachers as needed in daily carrying out of classroom activities.

Assist with the physical care of special education students as need (i.e. taking to the bathroom, diaper changes, feeding, escorting to services or classes, transferring students to and from wheelchairs, etc.)

Implement comprehensive positive behavioral support plans with teacher instruction.

Implement effective behavior management strategies.

Implement materials and utilize effective strategies to support the individual needs of students.

Uses time wisely, is organized, and works well with others.

Communicates effectively with the Special Education teacher and classroom teacher.

Maintains documentation on the progress of each student.

Attends training sessions and meetings as they occur.

Implements technology as appropriate within the small group setting.

Supports students in an inclusion classroom setting.

Establishes a positive and supportive relationship with the students, and encourages independent functioning rather than dependency when appropriate.

Supports established building, classroom, and behavior management procedures.

Maintains ethical behavior and confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

Ride the handicapped bus as needed.

Obtain crisis management certification.

Continuously increase professional development in behavior and disabilities.

Performs other duties as assigned.
