UI/UX Accessibility Developer (WCAG 2.1 AA)
1-2 solid UX/UI Consultants, preferably with some WCAG experience.
2 -3 Months (tight deadline, so need to bring in additional resources)
HYBRID - Onsite downtown RVA a few days a week
Role Summary
UI/UX developer with hands-on experience in WCAG 2.1 AA mobile/web compliance and document remediation, including familiarity with ADA requirements and accessibility best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Implementation
Develop semantic, accessible HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React components.
Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA standards across responsive mobile and web environments.
Testing & Auditing
Perform manual and automated accessibility testing.
Utilize tools such as:
Keyboard-only navigation
JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, TalkBack
Color Contrast Analyzer
aXe Chrome Extension
Acrobat Pro XI/DC
WAVE Evaluation Tool
Remediation
Identify and correct accessibility issues in:
PDF, Word, PowerPoint, and iText documents
Existing websites
Maintain alignment with current design and branding standards. Required Skills & Qualifications
Technical Proficiency
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, and React.
Experience in responsive mobile/web development.
Accessibility Expertise
Deep understanding of WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines.
Knowledge of WAI-ARIA roles, states, and best practices.
Assistive Technology
Experience working with:
JAWS
NVDA
VoiceOver
TalkBack
Skilled in keyboard-only navigation workflows.
Multimedia Accessibility
Experience implementing accessible multimedia.
Ability to ensure accurate, synchronized, and user-toggleable closed captions.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or equivalent practical experience. Preferred Experience
Familiarity with VB.NET and C# is a plus.
