Job Overview:
Search Solution Group is seeking a PLC Programmer on behalf of our client, a trusted provider of HVAC, controls, and maintenance solutions. The PLC Programmer is responsible for developing, configuring, and commissioning automation and control systems that support mission-critical data center infrastructure. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the reliability and performance of systems such as power distribution, cooling, and life-safety operations. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the PLC Programmer ensures seamless system integration, operational efficiency, and adherence to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and program PLC systems using Studio 5000 Logix Designer
Configure and support ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers
Design and implement ladder logic, structured text, and function block programming
Integrate PLC systems with critical infrastructure including generators, UPS, ATS, and cooling systems
Configure industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP
Integrate PLCs with HMI/SCADA platforms (e.g., FactoryTalk View) and BMS/EMS systems
Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and Integrated Systems Testing (IST)
Troubleshoot and diagnose system issues during startup and commissioning
Develop and maintain technical documentation including control narratives, I/O lists, and network diagrams
Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and commissioning teams during installation and integration
Provide on-site support to ensure proper system functionality and performance Requirements include:
Education:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Controls, or a related field
Equivalent hands-on industry experience may be considered Experience:
3-7+ years of PLC programming experience
Strong experience with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms
Experience with industrial automation or mission-critical systems
Experience supporting construction or commissioning projects preferred Skills:
Proficiency in ladder logic, structured text, and PLC programming languages
Experience with ControlLogix and CompactLogix systems
Familiarity with HMI and SCADA system development
Knowledge of industrial networking protocols (EtherNet/IP)
Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings Certifications:
Relevant technical certifications in PLC programming or automation systems are a plus Knowledge:
Understanding of electrical control systems and power monitoring integration
Familiarity with data center infrastructure and mission-critical systems
Knowledge of commissioning processes and testing procedures
Exposure to Building Management Systems (BMS) and Energy Management Systems (EMS)
Understanding of redundant control systems (e.g., N+1, 2N architecture) preferred Key Competencies:
