Purpose & Scope of the Position:
The Mining Estimator EIT is responsible for the development of detailed multi-disciplinary capital cost estimates, conceptual estimates, defined project estimates, accompanying schedules and project methodologies for engineering and tendered contracts for underground mining projects which are intended to ensure continued growth of the company.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Attend site visits and collect the required information in order to carry out estimates
Determine scope of work and define contractual requirements for underground mining projects. Includes the review of drawings, designs, specifications and commercial / contractual documentation
Prepare cost estimates from first principles based on defined scope of work.
Establish a representative schedule upon which the cost estimate is assembled
Interact with other departments and external suppliers to obtain material / equipment prices and analyze comparative pricing and work collaboratively with other departments support the commitments necessary for project success at the tendering phase.
Interact with operations personnel to establish project methodology for tendered work and ensure timelines can be executed safely and effectively
Prioritize & plan tender process to ensure bid is submitted correctly and on time.
Ensure bids prepared are clearly in line with leadership objectives and prepare tender content for review by departmental representatives
Prepare presentations on proposal content for internal and external stakeholders
Follow all company standards and procedures and assist with continuous improvement where there is opportunity to do so
Competencies, Skills, & Knowledge:
Previous underground experience, especially related to shaft, development, raising and/or infrastructure construction projects is an asset.
Ability to learn estimating software package (InEight Estimate) that has been modified specifically for the underground mine contracting business.
Experience with MS Office suite: Excel, Project, Word and Powerpoint.
Previous exposure to costing, budgeting, tracking or reporting is desirable.
Bilingualism is considered an asset (French, English, Spanish etc).
Experience with Primavera P6 an asset but not necessary.
Design software knowledge such as AutoCAD or Deswik experience considered an asset.
Valid drivers license required.
Valid passport and ability to travel nationally and internationally.
Bachelors degree in Mining Engineerng or equivalent from an accredited Canadian university.
