What will you be doing!

Investigating and identifying job scope; developing schedule and cost estimates; contributing to the design planning:

Participating in on-site field walk-downs, job investigations and meetings with internal customers.

Documenting identified hazards, risks, job scope, design inputs and requirements.

Developing estimates for durations and costs of task/job execution, and participating in developing design planning documentation.

Attending/leading pre-job brief and team meetings.

Understanding the scope of work, taking ownership of tasks, and understanding how their tasks impact the overall design plan.

Designing new and modifications/retrofits to process piping and mechanical systems:

Executing assigned tasks as per the approved design plan and in accordance with approved procedures and standards.

Preparing engineering design documents, design requirements, design description, design basis, technical specifications, standards, procedures, and analysis reports.

Preparing technical calculations and reports in support of design jobs.

Providing review of technical content to peers (as required).

Executing work and coordinating within a team environment; being responsive to requests for assistance and requesting assistance as needed.

Executing work within the team towards the common goal of successful job completion.

Construction/Commissioning support and job closure:

Responding to requests for support during the construction/commissioning phases of a job.

Reviewing and dispositioning requests for design deviations via Field Change Requests (FCR), as required.

Participating in construction completion on-site walk down; verifying installation and commissioning is in accordance with approved design documentation, and any deviations have been documented on approved FCRs.

Participating in the revision or review of required design documentation that captures the record As Built status in the field and satisfies job closure requirements.

Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

Education

Bachelor of Science in Engineering with preference to a degree in Mechanical Engineering from a University of recognized standing.

Eligible for membership with the PEO.

Experience

New graduate within 12 months of completing post-secondary or less than 2 years of experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of mechanical and process system design principles for S&T experiments, waste management, and complex facilities.

Skills in developing retrofit and modification designs for existing facility systems.

Skills in designing piping systems, heat exchangers, tanks, and pressure vessels in accordance with engineering and regulatory requirements.

Knowledge of classification, code selection, analysis, and registration requirements for pressurized systems and components.

Skills in performing engineering calculations to support the design and selection of mechanical components.

Skills in preparing design documentation, including conceptual designs, requirements, descriptions, manuals, specifications, and technical notes.

Skills in providing engineering support during construction, installation, and commissioning phases.

Skills in conducting field walkdowns, investigations, and assessments to support design development.

Familiarity with engineering codes and standards used in nuclear and non nuclear facility design, construction, and commissioning

Knowledge of engineering practices, organizational procedures, and quality management systems.

Skills in tracking, monitoring, and reporting progress on assigned tasks and project activities.

Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Strong oral and written English communication skills

Skills in communicating clearly with both technical and non technical audiences.

Skills in delivering technical presentations to groups of varying sizes.

Security Clearance Eligibility Required

Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

Working Conditions:

Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.

This position is part of the CRPEG Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the CRPEG Collective Agreement. Location: Hybrid Remote Eligible

CNL works with employees across our Canadian locations to enable remote work when possible. This role requires regular work at CNL’s Chalk River Laboratory site while also permitting the employee to spend the majority of their time working remotely, should they so desire. CNL employees who choose to work remotely the majority of the time are provided with the equipment required to be successful at their remote workplace (laptop, chair, monitor, etc.); however, they are not provided a dedicated onsite office.

Please note: This is a hybrid position, with a combination of remote work and onsite presence at our Chalk River Laboratory, Ontario.
