Job Position: Forklift Operator

Location: Dayton, TX 77535

Pay Rate: $18/ hour

Shift: Monday-Friday 8am-6pm

Position Summary:

The Forklift Operator plays a critical role in the operations by safely and efficiently operating forklifts or other powered industrial trucks. This position is responsible for material movement, inventory control, staging, and supporting shipping and receiving in a steel manufacturing or warehouse environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operate forklifts (sit-down, stand-up, or reach) to move raw materials, finished products, and other inventory throughout the facility.

Load and unload trucks, containers, or rail cars, ensuring materials are accurately staged for storage or production.

Perform daily pre- and post-shift inspections of forklift equipment; report maintenance or safety issues.

Accurately pick, stage, and transport materials per work orders or shipping documentation.

Maintain inventory accuracy by labeling, stacking, and organizing materials in the yard or warehouse.

Work closely with production, shipping, and receiving teams to support workflow and ensure on-time material availability.

Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations (e.g., OSHA), including the proper securing of loads.

Keep work areas clean and orderly to minimize hazards.Qualifications

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Valid forklift certification or willingness to become certified.

At least 1 year of experience operating forklifts in a warehouse, manufacturing, or steel yard environment preferred.

Experience working in heavy industrial settings (steel manufacturing, yards) is a plus.

Ability to read and follow written instructions (e.g., pick tickets, work orders).

Physical stamina: ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials; spend prolonged time seated in a forklift; good hand-foot coordination.

Safety awareness and strong attention to detail.

Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments (yard, warehouse) and wear required PPE (e.g., steel-toed boots).

(Preferred) Rigging or signaling certification.Working Conditions

Work is performed in a warehouse or yard environment; exposure to varying weather conditions may occur.

Required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety vests, steel-toed boots, gloves, etc.

Physical demands include sitting for extended periods, operating hand/foot controls, and sometimes lifting heavy objects.

Potential for overtime, depending on production or shipping needs.
