JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the V.P. of Operations, the Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the manufacturing and assembly floor, ensuring that production orders are executed accurately, efficiently, and on time. This role drives continual process improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance productivity, quality, and safety across the production environment.
The Production Supervisor maintains a safe and compliant workplace by upholding industry safety and health standards, ensuring staff are properly trained, and addressing hazards promptly.
A key part of this role is developing the people within the department - maintaining training records, and assisting in the recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
KEY/ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & PERFORMANCE OUTCOMES:
Key Responsibilities:
1.Drives continual improvement in the onsite manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Provide recommendations for changes to processes or systems to improve productivity, efficiency, quality, and safety.
• Continually monitor workload and staffing assignments to maximize efficiency and ensure that daily requirements are performed, including monitoring and approving time cards.
• Update and maintain the Preventive Maintenance schedule.
• Ensures compliance with industry safety and health codes and regulations such as machine guarding and personal protective equipment (PPE). Laser safety training for Production staff.
Performance Expectations & Outcomes
• Process improvement recommendations are documented, submitted to leadership, and followed up with implementation plans when approved in Green Light Guru.
• Staffing assignments reflect actual daily workload, and production requirements are completed without recurring backlogs, and time cards accurately reflect time worked.
• The Preventive Maintenance schedule is current, tasks are completed as scheduled, and there are no unplanned equipment failures attributable to missed maintenance.
• The production floor passes internal and external safety audits without findings related to machine guarding, laser safety, or PPE. Staff consistently wear the required PPE, and safety concerns are corrected promptly when identified.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI's):
• Zero backorders due to scheduling issues.
• Preventive Maintenance schedule is up-to-date and current.
• Zero lost time due to safety related incidence.
• Zero time card errors.
2. Oversee timely processing and support for the execution of production orders.
• Transact production orders in preparation for transfer into QA inspection.
• Coordinate the flow of products from the Production area into Shipping.
• In collaboration with the Buyer, monitor supply levels in the Production area to ensure that the staff have appropriate stock to process production requests.
Performance Expectations & Outcomes
• Production orders are transacted accurately and handed off to QA inspection without delay or rework caused by processing errors.
• Products move from the Production area to Shipping in a predictable, uninterrupted flow with no orders sitting idle due to coordination gaps.
• Supply levels in the Production area are consistently adequate - staff are never waiting on materials to complete a production request.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI's):
• Schedule adherence of greater than 99%.
• Zero backorders due to the delayed delivery of the product into shipping.
3.Ensures training and documentation of training for the production team.
• Maintain training matrix for the Production department, including departmental procedures, travelers, and work instructions.
• On-the-job safety training for Production staff.
• Assisting in the recruitment and onboarding of new hires.
Performance Expectations & Outcomes
• The training matrix reflects current revisions for all work instructions and travelers, and every Production Operator is trained and documented to the current version.
• All Production staff who work with equipment have completed training before operating independently, with records on file.
• The department operates without recordable injuries, and near-misses are reported, documented, and addressed.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI's):
• Zero past due training in Greenlight Guru.
• Zero past due training in BambooHR.
4. Other duties/tasks as assigned by the VP of Operations
• Assigned tasks are completed within agreed-upon timelines, and any risks to delivery are communicated proactively before a deadline is missed.
REQUIRED JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Working knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes, including production floor operations and workflow management.
Ability to read and interpret work instructions, travelers, and standard operating procedures.
Understanding of workplace safety regulations, including OSHA standards, machine guarding requirements, laser safety, and PPE compliance.
Experience managing staffing assignments and daily workload to meet production schedules.
Ability to identify inefficiencies in processes and recommend practical, actionable improvements.
Proficiency in transacting and tracking production orders through an ERP or inventory management system.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document findings, corrective actions, and training records clearly and accurately.
Ability to lead, coach, and develop production staff.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office or equivalent tools for scheduling, reporting, and documentation.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or assembly environment, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
Experience in maintaining training matrices and personnel development records.
Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement methodologies is a plus.
Prior experience with preventive maintenance scheduling and coordination.
Experience supporting the onboarding and training of new production staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Required to be at a desk working on a computer for extended periods of time and / or stand up to 8 hours per day.
Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Travel requirements- physical requirements as appropriate and determined based on travel needed for this position.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Manufacturing and warehouse environment.
Travel requirements: All employees are expected to travel to the Zyris office, working on site and participating in the All-Company Meetings / Events held at least twice per year. The exact % of travel and/or business travel requirements will be determined based on customer and business needs. Travel is seldom required of this position, but may be required for training or other ad hoc business needs.
