Purpose Provides technical support for policies, data, resources, application development and maintenance functions of the Geographical Information System (GIS) for Metro Parks to improve access to information at Inniswood Metro Gardens.
Example of Duties Uses Metro Parks equipment to locate plant collection into records database for use in the Hortis app.
Uses Field Maps app to locate heads, values, and other components of irrigation system.
Also uses Field Maps app to geolocate park features including signs, structures, and other points of interest.
Collects data throughout the park district by working outdoors exposed to a variety of weather conditions, navigating off trail or on unimproved terrain, with the presence of insects, wildlife, poison ivy, ect.
Prepares and updates map documents and other cartographic resources for use across departments and for the public.
Uses supplemental GPS equipment.
Performs special projects and related duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education/Experience: Students currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree or recent graduates within two quarters/semesters preferably in related field of graphic design, geographic information systems, computer aided drafting and design, Natural Resources or a related field and some experience in graphic design, digital mapping software, GIS applications, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications Include: Knowledge of Mortis, Field Maps app.
Excellent computer skills and experience with Adobe suite, ESRI's GIS software package (ArcGIS for desktop and extensions, Arc GIS for server), and global positioning systems preferred.
Ability to produce professional grade graphics preferred.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; interpret a variety of technical materials in books, journals and manuals.
Licenses, Registrations: Possession of a valid Ohio driver license, insurable by the Metro Park's insurance carrier, and ability to conform to the driving standards policy.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works both inside and outside.
Employee is required to walk throughout the parks, often times in a variety of weather conditions and through unimproved terrain/off-trail.
The employee is required to stand, walk, talk and hear.
Employee will spend time sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time.
The employee is required to use hands and fingers to survey, prepare drawings, sketches, and models and use instruments utilized in such preparation.
Employee is required to use computer, calculator, prepare reports, file paperwork, etc.
Work Environment: While performing the regular duties of this job, the employee will work both inside an office environment and outside in the parks collecting data and meeting with employees, contractors, and other stakeholders.
The employee is frequently required to travel to parks throughout the District.
