POSITION SUMMARY

Through direct accountability to the Supervisor, Quality and Patient Safety and in collaboration with the Trauma Program Coordinator and Trauma Program Medical Director, the Clinical Performance Registered Nurse Trauma is responsible for completion of concurrent surveillance of identified trauma patient medical records to identify opportunities within the Trauma Program in conjunction with the Trauma Performance Improvement & Patient Safety (PIPS) Coordinator.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), minimum requirement

Experience:

A minimum of 3 years Emergency Department experience as a Registered Nurse required

Experience with spreadsheet and database software required

Experience with process improvement modalities and teams preferred

Experience in the implementation and administration of clinical quality databases preferred

Experience in healthcare quality or performance improvement preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Proven analytical skills with the ability to organize, maintain, process, and analyze large amounts of information and complex issues.

Ability to communicate in a clear, concise and appropriate manner (verbal, nonverbal, written and graphically) with a variety of audiences.

Ability to manage multiple complex assignments and projects.

Exceptional customer service and effective interaction with executives, physicians, staff and patients.

Strong diplomacy and collaboration skills.

Sound decision-making skills.

License/Certification/Registration:

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania required

Certification as Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN), certification in healthcare quality (CPHQ) or certification in patient safety (CPPS) preferred

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Monitoring the process and outcome of trauma care, including adverse and unexpected events

IQVIA Platform will be utilized for all related performance improvement activity

Benchmarking as defined by the PTSF Standards of Accreditation, Level IV

Ensure the quality and timely provision of trauma care

Screens and summarizes findings from medical records in accordance with quality indicators

Synthesizes clinical knowledge when reviewing adverse or unexpected findings

Improve the knowledge and skills of trauma care providers

System and process issues such as documentation and communication

Clinical care, inducing identification and treatment of immediate life- threatening injuries

Transfer decisions

Provide foundation to promote performance improvement and patient safety within the trauma program

Issue identification encompassing all phases of trauma care

Facilitation of review process, congruent with the TOPIC curriculum (Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Quaternary)

Utilization of trauma registry data to operationalize PI activities

Assist in develop of performance improvement data hierarchy to standardize concurrent chart review process

Represents leadership by developing effective working relationships with administration, medical staff, nursing staff and hospital staff.

Establishes and maintains the provision of outstanding customer service.

Establishes presence in the trauma community on a local, regional and national level.

Maintains 75% or greater attendance at the Trauma PIPS

Multidisciplinary Peer Review PI Meeting

Multidisciplinary Trauma Program Operational Meeting

Supports the trauma program by seeking out opportunities for community engagement through injury prevention, public education and outreach
