Description

Primary duties include assisting the Electric Engineering Department with a variety of tasks to maintain and improve the 12kV electric distribution system serving the City of Decatur and provide new 120/240V electric service to customers and lighting facilities.

Assists Electric Engineering and GIS department with ArcGIS mapping improvements and updates.

Assists with system analysis within Operations Analysis Software to identify areas with low voltage, poor power factor, or other system studies.

Completes street and security light data entry

Collects and compiles data, generates reports, and maintains files.

Prepares estimates, material lists and design drawings for pole replacement, security light, and small new service workorders.

Conducts field checks of electric facilities within the Decatur Utilities Electric Territory.

Assist electric engineers with field investigations, pole staking, audits and other field related tasks.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Successful completion of Sophomore year (60 credit hours) in an Electrical Engineering or equivalent related engineering field from an accredited college or university.

Ability to read, interpret and comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings and procedure manuals.

Ability to analyze and prepare engineering and technical reports and business correspondence.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Outlook, Word & Excel) as required to perform job tasks. This includes using software applications for email, word processing, database tracking and spreadsheet applications.

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as kVA, kW, power factors, grades, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Ability to collect data, apply basic engineering principles and exercise good judgment to solve a variety of utility problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Available to work scheduled times; good organizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously; maintain professional business appearance and image; subject to random drug testing and driver’s license checks. Field work required.
