QUALIFICATIONS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and maintain operating room equipment and supplies prior to surgical procedures.
Assist the surgical team with gowning and gloving before procedures.
Ensure the sterile field is maintained by monitoring and enforcing aseptic techniques.
Pass surgical instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical assistants during operations.
Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to prevent any foreign bodies from being left inside the patient.
Assist in the preparation and application of sterile dressings.
Operate and maintain surgical equipment such as sterilizers, lights, and suction machines.
Transport patients to and from the operating room as needed.
Assist with the cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments and operating room surfaces.
Document surgical procedures and patient information accurately in medical records.
Monitor and maintain inventory levels of surgical supplies and request replenishments as necessary.
Assist in emergency situations by providing necessary support to the surgical team.
Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and hospital policies.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with surgical technology advancements.
Collaborate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure efficient and safe surgical operations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduation from an accredited surgical technologist program
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential preferred
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an operating room or surgical setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge of operating room procedures and sterile techniques
Proficiency in handling surgical instruments and equipment
Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
Ability to work efficiently in high-pressure situations
Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy equipment
Basic life support (BLS) certification
Understanding of patient confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA regulations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Capable of lifting 50-100 lbs. must use proper body mechanics when lifting, pushing, or pulling an object or person.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Capable of working and remaining calm in a stressful environment.
