R&D Technician

Fire & Risk Alliance, LLC is seeking motivated, hands on technicians to join our Cambridge, MD team.

This role is ideal for graduates of mechanical, electrical, or construction trade programs who enjoy building, assembling, and working with tools and equipment in active testing environments.

Our Cambridge testing facility focuses on medium and large scale fire testing, fire suppression research, deflagration protection, gas detection, and battery energy storage safety.

You’ll work directly with engineers to build test rigs, install instrumentation, and support major research programs.

Role DescriptionBuild and assemble medium and large scale experimental test structuresInstall sensors, wiring, piping, mechanical components, and instrumentationOperate and maintain tools, equipment, and machineryAssist with data collection, calibration, and troubleshootingSupport field work, equipment transport, and on site test operationsMaintain a safe, organized, and efficient testing environment QualificationsTraining or experience in mechanical, electrical, or construction trades (fabrication, framing, wiring, HVAC, assembly, etc.)Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with tools and equipmentAbility to read basic drawings, schematics, or construction layoutsExperience operating forklifts, skid loaders, pallet jacks, or similar equipment is a strong benefitWillingness to learn instrumentation and data acquisition systems Reliability, teamwork, and attention to detail Why This Role Is Great for Trade School GraduatesHighly hands on, practical workExposure to large scale testing and unique research environmentsLearn advanced instrumentation and testing skillsOpportunities to grow into senior technician or engineering support roles Location On site at FRA’s Cambridge, MD testing facility.
