Salary: Starting salary: $55,000 - $60,000 per year, depending upon experience

SUMMARY

The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for developing and implementing a diverse range of community programs that align with identified needs and organizational goals. While the overall scope of programming is broad, a primary emphasis will be placed on fitness and wellness initiatives that support the health and well-being of the community.

In addition, this position oversees all dog park programming, a summer camp program, and serves as the lead for several large-scale CWPD events, ensuring successful planning, execution, and community engagement.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

Expand and/or improve programs, activities and special events

Direct and lead summer youth camps for the community

Fulfill CWPD mission through program offerings

Satisfy the demand for outdoor and community recreation activities

Determine what activities and programs are desired or needed by the community and implement

Ensure opportunity to access programs regardless of ability, socio or economic status

Deliver programs considered by community to be high quality, safe, and convenient

Research industry trends and apply when appropriate

REQUIRED SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in recreational management, parks and recreation or related course of study (4-year degree preferred)

Maintain 1st aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogen certifications

Group and program leadership skills

Ability to organize various resources into a program

Ability to teach leadership and instructional techniques to part-time and seasonal staff

Knowledge of community and regional resources that can be enlisted to create or enhance programs

Effectively communicate with fellow staff, partners, and the public with both spoken and written word

Ability to provide appropriate information to a wide range of ages and abilities

Prepare periodic reports, maintain files and records using standard office software

Confidently manage registration software, internet and social media avenues

Embrace and actively promote an inclusive and equitable work environment, showing respect and sensitivity to cultural differences and serving a diverse customer base

Proficient in Windows-based computer systems

Ability to work well with others and as part of a team

Be able to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions

Pass a pre-employment drug test, physical examination and background check

Be insurable by park district insurance to operate vehicles

The ability to stay flexible when plans change

Ability to work with minimal supervision

Build and nurture programming partnerships and joint ventures

Create a variety of avenues for community to be outdoors via parks and programs

Cooperative and supportive working relationships with other staff members, partners and the public

Lifting requirement of 50 lbs.

Job requires patience and good customer service skills

Must have a valid Drivers license
