Senior Category Manager Role:
The Senior Category Manager is responsible for leading the end-to-end strategy and performance of assigned product categories, with a strong focus on procurement, vendor negotiations, pricing, merchandising, and in-store retail execution across locations in the Cayman Islands. This role combines commercial strategy and hands-on operational leadership to maximize sales, margin, and customer experience while ensuring compliance with local regulations and company standards.
Develop and own category strategies that deliver sales growth, gross margin improvement, and market share gains in line with company objectives.
Lead end-to-end procurement for assigned categories, including vendor selection, contract management, and supply continuity.
Drive robust vendor negotiations on cost, terms, payment, logistics, and marketing support to achieve targeted profitability and working capital goals.
Design and execute pricing strategies that balance competitiveness, margin, and brand positioning, including price ladders and promo mechanics.
Plan and approve promotional programs and in-store campaigns in partnership with Marketing and Operations.
Oversee assortment planning and product lifecycle management, including new item selection, rationalization, and private label development where applicable.
Collaborate with Merchandising and Store Operations to optimize planograms, shelf presentation, and space allocation, ensuring strong visual standards and easy navigation for customers.
Monitor category performance (sales, margin, inventory turns, sell-through, waste) and implement corrective action plans as required.
Manage demand planning and inventory levels, minimizing out-of-stocks and excess/obsolete inventory while navigating shipping lead times and import constraints into the Cayman Islands.
Conduct regular market and competitor analysis to identify trends, pricing movements, and new product opportunities relevant to the Cayman market.
Build strong relationships with local and international suppliers, logistics providers, and regulatory stakeholders to support a reliable, compliant supply.
Senior Category Manager Background Profile:
7+ years of progressive experience in category management, buying, or merchandising within grocery, FMCG, or multi-site retail, including at least 3 years at a senior or lead level.
Proven track record managing categories with full P&L accountability, including pricing, promos, and margin optimization.
Demonstrated strength in procurement and complex vendor negotiations, ideally with regional or international suppliers.
Solid experience in store-level retail operations or close collaboration with operations teams, with a clear understanding of how decisions impact execution on the sales floor.
Strong analytical and financial skills; comfortable using data to make decisions on pricing, assortment, and inventory.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional partners and senior leadership.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and category/merchandising or ERP systems; experience with retail analytics tools is an asset.
Experience working in island, offshore, or import-heavy markets is highly desirable; understanding of supply chain lead times and freight dynamics in the Caribbean is a plus.
