Role Description The Operations Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in the Northwest Suburbs in IL, responsible for overseeing daily building maintenance operations and ensuring service quality across assigned facilities. This role coordinates and supervises maintenance teams, schedules work, assigns tasks, and monitors performance to meet contractual and safety standards. The Operations Manager partners with clients on-site, responds to service requests, conducts walkthroughs, and resolves operational issues in a timely and professional manner. Responsibilities include bidding and estimating, staffing, managing supplies and equipment, overseeing vendor relationships, tracking budgets and labor hours, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements. The role also involves recruting, training and coaching staff, implementing process improvements, and preparing routine reports on operational performance and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
Experience in operations management, facilities management, or building maintenance leadership in a commercial or industrial setting.
Strong skills in team supervision, scheduling, workload planning, and performance management.
Ability to build and maintain effective client relationships, manage expectations, and address issues professionally on-site.
Working knowledge of building maintenance practices, cleaning standards, safety procedures, and basic equipment operation.
Proficiency with basic computer tools and systems (e.g., email, spreadsheets, maintenance or scheduling software).
Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities with a focus on quality and efficiency.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to give clear instructions and document activities accurately.
Ability to work flexibly including occasional early, late, or weekend hours as operations require.
High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certifications in facilities management, operations, or a related field are beneficial.
Previous experience in janitorial, building services, or a similar service-based industry is required.
