BOARD CERTIFIED BEHAVIOR ANALYST (BCBA)

Position Title:
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) – Contract / Part-Time / Consultant
Reports To:
Administrator / Licensee, Cynthia SFH
Position Summary:
Cynthia Small Family Home is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and highly skilled BCBA to support children with behavioral, emotional, developmental, and trauma-related needs within a residential small family home environment. The BCBA will assess behaviors, develop individualized behavior support plans, train direct care staff, and promote safe, therapeutic care that improves quality of life for each child served.
This role is especially important for children with aggression, impulsivity, self-regulation challenges, developmental delays, and difficulty with social boundaries.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Assessment & Planning
Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)
Identify triggers, maintaining factors, and environmental influences
Develop individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP)
Create measurable goals for skill development and behavior reduction
Review incident trends and recommend preventive strategies
Staff Training & Support
Train caregivers and staff on behavior plans and safe interventions
Teach de-escalation strategies and positive reinforcement methods
Provide coaching during challenging behaviors
Promote consistency across all shifts
Assist with documentation systems and behavior data collection
Child Skill Development
Build programs for:
Emotional regulation
Communication skills
Social boundaries
Daily routines
Safety awareness
Coping skills
Compliance with instructions
Collaboration
Coordinate with social workers, therapists, schools, psychiatrists, physicians, and family members as appropriate
Participate in care meetings when requested
Provide written summaries and progress recommendations
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure behavior supports follow California community care regulations and best practices
Use least restrictive, trauma-informed, person-centered approaches
Maintain confidentiality and professional documentation
Qualifications:
Required:
Current Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification in good standing
Master’s degree in behavior analysis, psychology, education, or related field
Experience working with children with behavioral challenges
Knowledge of trauma-informed care
Strong communication and staff training skills
Ability to work collaboratively in residential settings
Preferred:
Experience with foster youth, special needs children, or residential care homes
Experience with aggression, sexualized behaviors, impulsivity, autism, ADHD, trauma, or developmental disabilities
Experience writing behavior plans for multi-staff environments
Schedule:
Flexible / Part-Time / Contract
On-site assessments and staff training as needed
Virtual consultation may be considered
Emergency consultation availability preferred
Compensation:
Competitive hourly or contract rate based on experience and scope of services
Work Environment:
Small family home serving children requiring supportive, structured, nurturing care in a home-based environment.
