The Systems Engineer Manager has a general understanding of the business and applies seasoned knowledge. They manage activities with common purpose, while coordinating with other areas. They are given independence to accomplish goals within approved operating plans and are expected to be able to train, lead and mentor other engineers. They must be able to produce and manage project or team budgets and generally has supervisory responsibility for 3 or more staff.

Responsibilities:

Manages Linux/UNIX Engineering Support staff in areas of standards, projects, level III support issues, designs and overall IT engineering for infrastructure and technology.

Generate and maintain MGTI Infrastructure standards and strategy.

Participate in all architecture decisions for departmental or cross functional MGTI towers

Creates, manages and maintains departmental policies, process and procedures relating to standards, projects and cross functional interoperability

Effectively understand & communicate strategic and global initiatives and infrastructure

Maintains and improves on operational excellence in areas of support, design and finance

Creates, manages and maintains project and department budgets

Ensure compliance with all MMC policies and practices

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1. Bachelor degree in computer science or equivalent is desired; Masters degree preferred.

2. (8-10) years experience

3. Required Skills – Linux/Unix Engineering

4. Extensive knowledge (5+ years) of, and direct experience in the design, implementation, and support of Linux and UNIX technologies in the large-scale, multinational enterprise, including a majority of the following: (Indicate which you have)

a. RHEL 5.X and above

b. Docker Containers and related technologies such as container orchestration and management tools

c. Experience with current DevOps tools and methodologies

d. Knowledge of cloud technologies and platforms (e.g OpenStack, vRealize Automation)

e. Knowledge of cloud providers including AWS and Azure

f. Solaris 9 and above

g. Experience with BigData platforms (e.g. Hadoop)

h. Knowledge of PHP scripting & MySQL

i. Oracle DB installations and troubleshooting on UNIX

j. VMware 5.x and above

k. OVM

l. Oracle RAC

m. x86 Blade and rack mount servers

5. Knowledge and experience with scripting languages. PERL, bash/ksh etc

6. Possess understanding of foundational technology elements including: (Indicate which you have)

a. Networking, including understanding of DNS, routing,

b. Experience designing and supporting clustered environments

c. Basic understanding of Storage technologies (capacity, IOPS planning)

d. Complex network configurations including VLAN tagging & link aggregation.

7. Strong communications skills and experience with all levels of technical documentation including: (Indicate which you have)

a. Architecture diagrams

b. Data flow diagrams

c. Process flow diagrams

8. Knowledge document creation/maintenance

9. Desirable Skills – Linux/UNIX Engineering

10 Knowledge of HPUX

11. Disaster recovery experience, including design, planning and execution
