The Douglas Community & Sports Club Inc. T/A The Tin Shed Port Douglas is seeking an experienced Cook to join our busy kitchen team in Port Douglas.

Salary: $75,000 per annum plus superannuation

Position: Full Time (Minimum 38 hours per week)

The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing, seasoning and cooking a variety of menu items whilst maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, food safety and kitchen operations.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare, season and cook menu items in accordance with recipes and kitchen standards.

• Prepare and organise ingredients and complete mise en place requirements for service periods.

• Ensure food quality, consistency, portion control and presentation standards are maintained.

• Monitor food preparation and cooking processes to ensure meals are prepared and presented to a high standard.

• Assist with planning and preparation of menus, daily specials and seasonal menu items.

• Monitor stock levels, rotate stock and assist with inventory control and ordering requirements.

• Ensure compliance with food safety legislation, food handling requirements, HACCP principles and workplace health and safety procedures.

• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of kitchen workstations, equipment and storage areas.

• Assisting in supervising Kitchen Hands and junior kitchen staff during food preparation and service periods.

• Contribute to efficient kitchen operations during busy service periods.

Skills and Experience

• Certificate III in Commercial Cookery, Certificate IV in Kitchen Management or equivalent qualification.

• At least one year of relevant work experience as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment.

• Ability to prepare, season and cook menu items in accordance with recipes and kitchen standards.

• Understanding of food safety, stock control and kitchen operations.

• Strong organisational and time management skills.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
