Position Overview:

GPT Renewables is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Installer to support a 2 MW commercial flat rooftop solar project. This project utilizes a Panel Claw racking system supported by ballasts with roof attachments, VSun modules, and SMA inverters.

This individual must have strong commercial rooftop solar experience and be comfortable leading a crew while actively working alongside the team (“wearing the tools”). The selected candidate will work closely with the Lead Electrician and Superintendent to help drive the project safely and efficiently to completion.

This is a 15-week project with consistent overtime and the opportunity to work on a high-profile commercial rooftop installation.

Pay Rate: $37.75(+ Fringe benefits of $15.00)

Per Diem: $140 per work day

Responsibilities:

Promote and comply with all Company and site-specific safety policies and procedures.

Lead and work alongside installation crews in all aspects of commercial rooftop solar construction.

Oversee installation of Panel Claw racking systems utilizing ballast and roof attachment methods.

Install VSun solar modules and support overall PV system mechanical completion activities.

Utilize hand tools and battery-operated power tools such as impacts, drills, saws, and other construction equipment safely and effectively.

Read and interpret construction drawings, layouts, and installation plans.

Coordinate daily work activities with the Lead Electrician and Superintendent.

Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications and quality standards.

Operate and work from scissor lifts while performing rooftop installation tasks.

Assist with crew task assignments, productivity tracking, and mentoring less experienced installers.

Identify and resolve installation issues or material deficiencies in the field.

Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and equipment.

Follow all fall protection, rooftop safety, and lockout/tagout procedures.

Support project completion milestones and maintain production schedules.

Assist with material staging, rooftop logistics, and coordination between mechanical and electrical crews.

Produce quality work while maintaining a strong focus on safety and teamwork.

Qualifications:

Minimum 3–5 years of commercial solar installation experience.

Previous experience leading crews on commercial rooftop solar projects required.

Strong experience with commercial flat rooftop PV systems required.

Experience with ballast-mounted racking systems preferred.

Familiarity with Panel Claw racking systems is highly preferred.

Experience working with VSun modules is a plus.

Must be comfortable leading while actively performing installation work.

Scissor lift certification required or ability to obtain certification prior to start.

Must own standard hand tools and battery-operated tools including impacts, drills, saws, etc.

Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and installation plans.

Strong understanding of rooftop safety and fall protection requirements.

Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and adapt to changing site conditions.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Ability to pass a drug screen and basic background check.
