Salado Equine Medical Center has an opening on our team for a motivated individual to help us care for horses. We are a renowned equine hospital located in Central Texas and have over 30+ team members at our clinic, and we believe in our ability to help people through the care of horses. If you have a desire to help improve the lives of horse owners and help us to grow our business, we want to talk to you. We are seeking a team player to work with our veterinary staff and hospital technicians.
Applicants must be self motivated, able to maintain routine physical activity, possess a steady personality, be able to build relationships with our team members and clients, and have the ability to manage their time. Computer skills are a requirement. Experience with horses is required.
Responsibilities
Restraint and handling of horses
Placing IV Catheters
Collect IV Samples
Administer IV and oral medication
Pass NG tube and reflux a horse
Knowledge of basic equine physical health
Restraint of foals
Knowledge of basic foal physical heath
Data entry into our practice management system
How to safely catch a horse
Run basic lab work (CBC, Chem, PCV, Lactate, ISAT) and in house lab cultures
Bandage limbs
Induction of anesthesia
Monitor indirect blood pressure
Qualifications
Equine experience - We are willing to train motivated individuals, but equine experience is a must for safety reasons.
Understanding veterinary terminology
Knows animal physiology
Basic husbandry
Tube feeding experience
IV catheterization
Computer skills
Communication skills
Knowledge of biosecurity
This position is an overnight position from 10pm-8am and does include weekends. Training for this position will be during normal business hours before moving to the overnight hours.
It is supported by managing partners, office manager, lead technician, receptionists, hospital technicians, laboratory and pharmacy manager.
