Job Summary
Part of a larger team delivering high quality technology solutions to the business. Design, develop and install software solutions. Build high-quality, innovative and fully performing software in compliance with internal architecture, development & design standards & best practices. Design, modify, develop, write, implement and troubleshoot software programming applications. Support and/or install software applications. Participate in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software. Works within a Waterfall or Agile methodology/framework based team. Collaborates heavily with Project Management, Business Analyst and Infrastructure Job Families.

What you'll do:
Essential Job Functions & Tasks
This role supports critical technologies that enable the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of AEP's generation fleet across fossil, hydro, renewable, and emerging generation environments.
The position partners closely with engineering, operations, cyber security, infrastructure teams, and external vendors to maintain application reliability, resolve issues, and deliver enhancements that improve plant operations.
The engineer will provide technical ownership and support for vendor applications that facilitate the operation of AEP's generation fleet, including platforms used in fossil, hydro, renewable, and SMR environments.
Supported technologies may include engineering design tools such as Bentley and Autodesk software (including AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ProjectWise), continuous monitoring systems such as InsightCM/Machinery Health Manager, safety solutions, and clearance and lockout/tagout systems such as eSOMS.
This role also contributes to IT and operational technology initiatives that improve efficiency, modernize platforms, and integrate new technologies into generation operations.
Successful candidates will be curious, adaptable, and comfortable learning new technologies while identifying opportunities to improve support, reliability, and user experience.
The role requires strong collaboration skills and the ability to build trust across teams, system integrators, and business partners while working through complex operational and technical challenges.
The position participates in a rotation for after-hours 24/7 on-call support, making responsiveness and sound troubleshooting judgment important for success.
Experience in power plant operations, generation engineering, or other industrial operational environments is beneficial and will help candidates ramp up more quickly.
Additional Preferred Requirements
Experience troubleshooting networking concepts such as WAN and VPN connectivity in support of enterprise or vendor-hosted applications
Understanding of both cloud and on-premises hosting models and the operational considerations of each
Strong experience working with SQL and/or Oracle databases for application support, troubleshooting, or configuration
Experience configuring, supporting, and coordinating with vendors on packaged or vendor-supplied applications
Intermediate scripting or automation knowledge such as PowerShell, Java, or similar technologies
Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux server environments, including physical and virtual infrastructure
Strong end-user support and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams
Interest in identifying opportunities to apply AI, automation, and digital capabilities to improve business processes and the generation technologies we support; application development experience is a plus.
Experience with providing technology solutions for site construction and Experience with providing technology solutions during an Site Acquisition is a plus
