Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Surgical Oncology position at a cancer hospital, requiring 2 years of experience and ACLS certification for a night shift contract in Ohio.
Details
Mixed acuity PCU and Med-Surg unit specializing in surgical oncology at a cancer hospital
Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
Surgical oncology diagnoses include breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary (liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, neuroendocrine), colorectal, and reconstructive plastics cases
Goal nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4, but may extend to 1:5 based on unit needs
Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30)
Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
Scheduling is self-request based; travelers submit preferred schedules before the final schedule is posted and balanced every 4 weeks
Day/Night rotating contracts are possible — shift assignments (days, nights, or combination) are determined by department needs each 4-week scheduling period
All travelers may be required to float within their scope of practice
Charting is done in Epic
Requirements
Active Ohio (OH) or Compact RN license required
Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
Epic EMR experience expected
2 professional references required — at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership capacity (e.g., Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; no coworker references accepted
Additional Information
ONS Chemotherapy certification is preferred
Unit has a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
Special procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, management of oncologic emergencies and cytokine release syndrome, insulin drips, and heparin drips
Orientation consists of one week of Mon–Fri day shifts followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
Ohio fingerprinting is required and must be initiated promptly after accepting an offer — candidates outside Ohio will need to travel to a fingerprinting location or complete a mailed fingerprinting packet upon receipt
All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted prior to placement and built into the contract; RTO is limited to 7 days or fewer
Former employees of the facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation
Local candidates are accepted at the same bill rate
