Position Summary
The BIM Coordinator is responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes throughout all phases of construction projects. This role works closely with project managers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and field teams to ensure accurate 3D modeling, clash detection, coordination, and project documentation. The BIM Coordinator supports project delivery by improving collaboration, reducing construction conflicts, and enhancing overall project efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
BIM Coordination & Modeling
Develop, maintain, and manage project BIM models using BIM software platforms.
Coordinate architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and specialty trade models.
Ensure BIM models comply with project standards, client requirements, and company BIM execution plans.
Maintain model accuracy throughout design and construction phases.
Clash Detection & Coordination
Perform clash detection and constructability reviews.
Identify and resolve conflicts between building systems prior to installation.
Facilitate coordination meetings with project stakeholders and subcontractors.
Track and document clash resolutions and model updates.
Project Support
Collaborate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and field personnel to support project execution.
Generate construction drawings, shop drawings, and installation layouts from BIM models.
Assist with quantity takeoffs and material procurement planning.
Support prefabrication and modular construction initiatives through BIM technology.
Technology & Standards Management
Maintain BIM standards, workflows, and best practices.
Assist in the implementation of new BIM technologies and software.
Train project teams on BIM processes and model utilization.
Ensure compliance with company and client BIM requirements.
Documentation & Reporting
Produce model-based reports, visualizations, and coordination documentation.
Maintain BIM project records and revision histories.
Create and distribute coordination meeting minutes and action items.
Monitor project milestones related to BIM deliverables.
Field Coordination
Support field teams with model navigation and digital construction tools.
Conduct site visits to verify model accuracy and installation progress.
Assist with laser scanning, reality capture, and as-built model development.
Coordinate field changes and update BIM models accordingly.
Required Qualifications
Education
Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Drafting, or a related field preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience
3–5 years of experience in BIM coordination, VDC, construction, architecture, or engineering.
Experience supporting commercial, healthcare, education, industrial, or interior construction projects preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficiency with:
Autodesk Revit
Autodesk Navisworks
AutoCAD
Bluebeam Revu
BIM 360 or Autodesk Construction Cloud
Knowledge of construction drawings, building systems, and coordination workflows.
Understanding of BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) and industry standards.
Preferred Qualifications
BIM certification or Autodesk certification.
Experience with laser scanning and reality capture technologies.
Knowledge of interior construction systems including:
Drywall and framing systems
Acoustic ceiling systems
Doors, frames, and hardware
Specialty ceilings
MEP coordination
Experience with 4D scheduling and 5D estimating.
