Wadena County Human Services is hiring a Peer Coordinator for the Hope Center. In this role, you will engage with participants who use the Hope Center while facilitating and organizing activities such as cooking classes, arts and crafts, movie days, and bingo. The Peer Coordinator will be knowledgeable about resources throughout Wadena County in areas such as transportation, mental health supports and healthcare. The Peer Coordinator will register participants, clean the center both before and after each shift and assist participants in using the laundry facility. The Peer Coordinator must have a high school diploma or GED and must have lived experience dealing mental health and or substance use issues. This position must be able to pass a criminal background check and be proficient in the operation of computers and household appliances. This is a part-time position working between 15-19 hours each work. The hours will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:45a-3:00p with additional daytime hours for supervision and trainings.

Duties and Responsibilities

Opens the Hope Center in a timely manner.

Engages in daily activities with consumers based upon the monthly activity calendar.

Greet and check-in participants as they enter the Hope Center.

Provide one-to-one interactions with participants, as needed.

Provide group activities involving multiple participants at one time.

Document participant information as required by statutory requirements.

Provide basic information to participants regarding community resources.

Schedule outside entities for presentations as directed by supervisor.

Assist participants with scheduling laundry and showers.

Show participants how to use the washer and dryer in the Hope Center.

Distribute toiletries as needed.

Prepare food and snacks for participants and distribute using appropriate hygiene practices.

Provide daily cleaning in the Hope Center at the end of each shift.

Communicate issues impacting the Hope Center to direct supervisor.

Maintain good personal boundaries sharing information about oneself as needed to assist a participant find resources, or serve as an example of wellness.

Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of the position.

Ancillary Duties and Responsibilities

Attends training/educational sessions, and meetings as scheduled.

Assist any presenters or community resources present at the Hope Center.

While these are the primary focus of the position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as part of their role with the County.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Degree (GED).

Lived Experience with Mental Health Issues.

Must have basic computer literacy.

Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

Must be able to operate household appliances.

Licenses/Certifications

Valid Driver's License may be beneficial, however, is not required.

This job typically requires: sitting, standing, walking, feeling, manual dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, typing, and seeing. There is prolonged exposure to standing. This position is generally light-duty and may require the exertion up to 20 pounds of force.
