The Role
We're seeking an Engineering Manager to lead our Buyer Solutions, Dispatch Intelligence, and Core Engineering efforts to support features in Aria empowering clean energy buyers to make informed procurement decisions, and optimizing the real-time performance and profitability of distributed energy resources. These features are a core part of Verse's product offerings that empower our users to make informed decisions about their energy costs and emissions. You will partner closely with Product, Design, Data Science and cross-functional stakeholders to define roadmaps, align on priorities, and understand their needs around evaluating clean energy projects, planning their portfolios, managing their risk, delivering key portfolio insights, and navigating energy cost factors.
Key Responsibilities
Own and oversee engineering team execution translating company, product, technology strategy into a clear, sequenced and prioritized delivery plan
Establish and maintain clearownership of work flows, including decision-making on priorities, tradeoffs, and edge cases across individual contributors (ICs) in the engineering team
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of software engineers, fostering accountability, clarity, and high performance while coaching them on expectations, scope, and delivery along the way
Establish clear team goals, provide regular feedback, and support career development for team members
Drive technical excellence and velocity in an AI-native environment, leveraging modern development practices, emerging technologies, and providing technical leadership with architectural guidance, and hands-on engagement to unblock teams and maintain system fluency
Anticipate evolving needs and risks, surface dependencies early, and drive follow-through on decisions to balance near-term delivery with long-term system health and managing technical debt intentionally
Recruit, interview, and hire exceptional engineering talent
Monitor and improve team metrics including delivery velocity, system reliability, and customer outcomes
What We're Looking For (Minimum Qualifications)
2+ years of experience managing software engineering teams
4+ years of hands-on experience in a technical role in or alongside an engineering organization
Track record of delivering production-quality software and leading teams through complex technical projects
Experience managing engineers working across frontend, backend, and infrastructure
Strong technical foundation with the ability to contribute to architectural decisions and support best engineering practices
Demonstrated ability to build trust, provide clear feedback, and develop engineering talent
Excellent communication skills, proactive mindset, and high emotional intelligence
Passion for mission-driven work and commitment to advancing clean energy solutions
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment
What Will Make You Standout (Preferred Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience)
Background in clean tech, sustainability, electricity markets, or similar mission-driven technology companies
Expertise in one or more modern software ecosystems (TypeScript, React, Next.js, Go, Python, cloud infrastructure)
Knowledge of distributed systems, data pipelines, or high-scale applications is a big plus
Experience managing teams working on complex, data-intensive products or enterprise SaaS platforms
Experience building and scaling high-performance teams from the ground up at early-stage companies
Track record of elevating team morale and performance through coaching, process improvements, and people initiatives
Contributions to engineering culture, developer advocacy, or technical community building
History of hiring and developing engineers who have gone on to senior or leadership roles

Base Pay Range
$194,000 - $230,000
This is the estimated base salary range for this position, which does not include the value of benefits or a potential equity grant. A wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to level, skill sets, market conditions, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and business and organizational needs.
