Job Description
Purpose of the Role
The CNC Setup/Operator receives daily directions from the Department Supervisor and is responsible for setting up machines, obtaining materials, operating equipment, cleaning, and packing products to meet daily production requirements. This is a hands-on, independent role with responsibility for multiple aspects of the machining process.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform machining operations such as turning, milling, and drilling to close tolerances on a wide variety of materials using CNC mills and lathes.
Interpret complex engineering drawings and follow written and verbal instructions. Perform required mathematical calculations independently.
Use precision measuring instruments to ensure parts meet quality standards.
Perform productive tasks during machine cycle time, including:
Inspecting parts
Maintaining tooling
Deburring parts
Stamping part numbers
General housekeeping
Perform complex machine set-ups, including indicating, leveling, clamping, and blocking.
Determine pick-up points, set stops and controls, check tooling, and troubleshoot technical issues with minimal assistance.
Select appropriate cutting tools, feeds, and speeds consistent with sound machining practices.
Replace tooling and make machine adjustments to maintain product quality standards.
Train and provide guidance to less experienced machinists as needed.
Contribute to team efforts to meet daily goals in safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity.
Support and maintain zero lost-time accidents within the department and throughout the facility.
Maintain strong housekeeping standards in the assigned area and throughout the plant.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Key Knowledge and Skills
Ability to read, evaluate, and respond to product specifications, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Strong mathematical skills.
Familiarity and comfort working with industrial machinery.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Proficiency using micrometers, snap gauges, and other precision measurement tools.
Knowledge of assembly, machining processes, quality control, and safety standards.
Ability to work effectively within a team in a diverse manufacturing environment.
Three (3) years of experience preferred; other qualified applicants will be considered.
Effective verbal, written, and mathematical communication skills.
Basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk and stand for the duration of an eight-hour shift.
Ability to consistently lift up to 25 lbs. from floor or table height to chest height using proper lifting techniques.
Ability to repetitively use arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate parts.
Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Education and Experience Preferred
High School Diploma or GED.
Experience with HAAS, Fanuc, Siemens, Okuma, and/or multi-axis live tooling systems preferred.
