SUMMER 2026

$18.00 - $20.00 Hourly

Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. M-F

This full-time (forty hour per week) temporary position could be modified down to as few as thirty-two hours per week for the right candidate, if preferred.

Preference will be given to applicants who have completed their sophomore year in an Engineering or related program.

Duties/Responsibilities

This position will assist the engineering department with civil and municipal engineering tasks, including roadway and utility construction and maintenance project inspections, various survey data gathering tasks, infrastructure asset data updates using GPS equipment and/or data entry in the City's GIS system, and many other varied engineering related tasks. The position's responsibilities and work will be performed both outside and in an office setting.

Position Requirements:

Knowledge and understanding of general construction practices of municipal infrastructure including roadway and utility construction. Experience with inspection of roadway, sanitary, and storm sewer construction is preferred but not required. Applicants pursuing a bachelor's or technical degree in civil engineering, surveying, or related field are preferred.

Desire to learn and take an active role in quality assurance, inspection, and project management of City's infrastructure maintenance and rehabilitation programs.

Ability to operate survey equipment including the ability to learn and operate GPS equipment.

Possession of a valid driver's license and have the ability to operate a car and work outdoors.

Knowledge and understanding of computer systems operation.

Understanding and ability to use Microsoft Office programs and GIS software.

Ability to read and understand basic computer-generated drawings. AutoCAD software knowledge is preferred but not required.

Ability to interpret, understand, and apply software manufacturers' directions for program operation and application.

Ability to perform basic math functions. Ability to calculate and enter data into software program fields.

Ability to maintain prompt, predictable, and regular physical attendance.

Willingness to perform other related duties consistent with the function of the classification as assigned.

Standard office equipment including calculator; copier; computer, including word processing, spreadsheet, data base applications, and related software; telephone; printers; postage meter; technical equipment including digital camera and measuring devices; use of personal protective equipment when required; motor vehicle.

Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate various pieces of office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be subjected to significant time in outside working environment, exposure to seasonal heat, humidity, and cold weather conditions.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate and occasionally loud.
