Description:

FIRST LEGO League/Robotics Club Coach (Anticipated) Needed

Location: Williston Central School / 2026-2027 School Year

Are you passionate about STEM, mentorship, and empowering the next generation of innovators? The Champlain Valley School District (CVSD) is seeking a dedicated FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Coach to lead our robotics team at Williston Central School. In this role, you aren't just teaching kids to code; you're helping students in grades 4-8 build confidence, solve real-world problems, and discover the power of teamwork.

As an FLL Coach, you will guide a team of curious minds through the FIRST LEGO League Challenge. This global program combines the excitement of a sports competition with the rigors of science and technology. Your goal is to facilitate:

The Robot Game: Building and programming an autonomous LEGO robot to complete complex missions.

The Innovation Project: Researching and designing a solution to a real-world problem.

Core Values: Nurturing a culture of discovery, inclusion, and-most importantly-fun!

Responsibilities:

Champion Equity: Work with school leadership to actively recruit and support students from groups historically marginalized in Computer Science and robotics.

Facilitate & Mentor: Guide the team through 4th-8th grade-appropriate coding and engineering principles.

Project Management: Help the team set realistic goals, manage their timeline, and handle administrative tasks like tournament registration.

The Bridge: Serve as the primary liaison between the team, families, and the FIRST LEGO League organization.

Culture Builder: Display the patience and professionalism needed to help students take true ownership of their work.

Schedule and Compensation:

Season: September 2026 through the end of January 2027.

Weekly Commitment: Approximately 5 hours per week (includes 2 afternoon sessions of 1.5 hours each, plus 2 hours of prep time).

The Big Event: Lead the team at the Vermont State Competition on Sunday, January 24th, 2027 at Norwich University (all-day event).

Pay: Competitive stipend compensated per Category "B" of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience: Previous work with FLL Robotics or middle-school-aged children (Grades 4-8).

Technical Literacy: Comfortable with basic troubleshooting, file management, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Disposition: A kind, patient leader who values Innovation and Inclusion as much as technical success.

CVSD is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to ensuring that all of our students achieve our mission - which means we are also committed to developing a faculty and staff that represents the inclusive, welcoming environment we seek to develop for students and families.
