General Description
Performs intermediate professional work in the programming of data processing installation and operations to ensure the effective and economical use of hardware, software and materials; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Information Services Manager.
Essential Functions
Assisting in planning computer operations; assists in the development of new applications and programs, improving existing applications; assisting user departments; installing hardware and software.
Assists in the development of new programs and improvement and maintenance of existing applications;
Maintains and installs hardware, software, printers, handheld units, database programs and exchange server;
Provides technical and operational assistance to users in the application systems assigned;
Recommends revisions or improvements to better utilize the hardware/software installed in accordance with prescribed guidelines;
Implements applications; documents operational procedures and program design concepts;
Re-evaluates application operations and results; tests, corrects, reviews, updates and consolidates programs;
Supervises, instructs, plans and assists in the organization of work for new or revised applications;
Reviews current non-computerized processes and makes recommendations as to the feasibility of their adaptation to the computer;
Meets and discusses problems and developments with appropriate vendors and representatives;
Performs a wide variety of documentation tasks including system, program, user and operator documentation;
Assists departments in evaluating personal computing hardware and software, installs PC systems, provides education and training; coordinates on-line training courses;
Performs related tasks as required.
Typical Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science or related field and some experience in computer programming operations, networking and office procedural and systems analysis.
Thorough knowledge of data processing procedures for machine production of records and decision making information; thorough knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, techniques and equipment; thorough knowledge of programming techniques and mathematics as applied to computer operations; general knowledge of the operations, characteristics and requirements of a computer configuration; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates the general public.
Physical Demands
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires fingering and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
