Job Description
This is an entry-level maintenance position responsible for general upkeep and minor maintenance of buses, vans and cars for Valley Transit. Work involves fueling buses and other vehicles, checking fluid levels and tire inflation, changing fare box vaults, vacuuming and washing buses and exchanging buses that break down. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Maintenance/Operations Supervisor.
Hours for this position are flexible Monday - Thursday, with fixed hours on Friday and Saturday. Friday hours are 1:00PM - 9:00PM. Saturday hours are 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
• Fuels all buses, vans and cars owned and operated by Valley Transit.
• Checks fluid levels and tires of all buses, vans and cars as they are fueled.
• Changes fare box vaults.
• Vacuums inside of buses.
• Washes buses, cars and vans with the use of a hand-held pressure washer and a drive through bus wash.
• Exchanges buses that experience mechanical problems en route; may tow such vehicles back to the garage for repair.
• Performs general building maintenance as needed, including sweeping and scrubbing floors and walls, removing snow and ice, and doing routine painting.
• Operate Forklift to empty waste containers
• Maintains regular punctual and predictable attendance, works overtime and extra hours as required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
• Installs and removes interior advertising cards.
• Assists with the installation and removal of bus stop signs and poles.
Typical Qualifications
Requires some experience of a mechanical nature and some training beyond the high school level in automotive care or an equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
• Knowledge of equipment mechanics, parts, tools and methods of operation relating to buses.
• Ability to drive a bus and other heavy equipment.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
• Ability to work independently and to exercise sound judgment.
• Ability to withstand a variety of temperatures.
• Possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the P endorsement and a Federal Medical Card.
