Registered Diagnostic Radiology Technologist - RT(R)

Location: Boone, North Carolina Part-time Days & Weekends On-Call May Be Required

As a Registered Diagnostic Radiology Technologist RT(R) at UNC Health Appalachian, you'll combine technical skill, scientific knowledge, and compassionate patient interaction to produce high-quality diagnostic images. You'll play a vital role in patient care, working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and imaging teams to ensure timely, accurate results and a safe, positive patient experience.

This role may include opportunities for cross-training in Computed Tomography (CT), supporting career growth and expanding your technical expertise.

Compensation: Starting pay begins at $26.54 per hour, with competitive rates based on experience and education.

Schedule: Full-time with variable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Perform high-quality diagnostic radiographic exams in accordance with physician orders and established protocols.

Use technical and scientific knowledge to obtain clear, accurate diagnostic images.

Provide compassionate, clear communication to patients and families, explaining procedures and ensuring comfort.

Adhere to all ARHS/UNC Health Appalachian safety policies, regulatory standards, and radiation safety guidelines.

Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and clinical teams to support coordinated care and optimal patient outcomes.

Participate in professional development and cross-training initiatives, including CT as needed.

Demonstrate integrity, accountability, and alignment with UNC Health Appalachian's Mission, Vision, and Values. Qualifications

Education:

Completion of an accredited radiologic technology program. Experience:

Clinical radiographic and imaging experience through an AMA-accredited radiologic facility. Licenses/Certifications:

Current RT(R) certification required.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at hire. Skills & Abilities:

Strong communication skills with the ability to provide courteous, effective interaction with patients, families, and staff.

Demonstrated competency in delivering safe and effective imaging within licensure and hospital policies.

Knowledge of the patient care continuum and radiologic workflow.

Commitment to customer service and patient-centered care. Physical & Work Environment

Continuous standing and walking for 8+ hours per shift.

Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying 50+ lbs.

Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, turning, and reaching.

Exposure to vibration, cramped spaces, and both ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

Frequent patient mobilization for more than 4 hours per day.

Frequent fine motor use and close eye work.

Regular exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and radiology equipment hazards.
