Description
The Forester position is responsible for assisting in the management and administration of the Timber Sale Program and related functions of the Forestry Department. This employee will be responsible for a number of varied management and administrative duties relating to Land and Forestry work and is expected to exercise good judgment in the application of prescribed procedures and regulations pertaining to the debarment and its practices.
Examples of Duties
Assist in the recordkeeping of the following:
Timber Sale Contract Files
Various project files
Assist in the administration of the Timer Sale Program.
Assist in timber sale contract compliance.
Assist in scaling of cut forest products.
Assist in timber sale establishment including running timber sale boundary lines, cruising timber and selectively marking timber.
Assist in Forest Cultural Projects.
Prepare areas for post timber sale treatment.
Assist in the layout and design of County Forest Roads and Logging Trails.
Assist in timber sale inventory using GIS and WISFIRS programs.
Interpret and analyze state rules and regulations regarding forestry issues.
Collaborate with DNR forest program managers on Wisconsin's Forest Inventory Software System.
Responsible for conducting safe timber sale contracts and public safety on timber sales.
Solve problems and mediate conflict that may occur with customers or the public during timber sale programs.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Forestry from an accredited college or university that is affiliated with the Society of American Foresters.
Two years' experience in a field related to Forestry and Timber Management is preferred.

Physical Requirements
This job entails physical demands and exposure to hazardous conditions, disease or environments. A majority of the shift is spent standing or walking.
Work Environment
Environmental conditions impacting physical comfort, including weather extremes will be encountered while conducting these forestry activities and related duties while out of the office.
