Machine Operator

United Mailing Services (UMS) is hiring a Machine Operator / Backup Route Driver to support daily mail production and transportation operations. This position is ideal for someone who is dependable, mechanically capable, and adaptable. This employee will be cross-trained to operate and support all major shop equipment, including inserting machines, mail sorting/OCR equipment, and mail metering equipment. In addition, this role will serve as a backup route driver, assisting with mail pickup and delivery routes as needed.

Machine Operation & Production

Set up, operate, and monitor inserting, sorting (OCR), and metering equipment.

Perform inline quality control checks and follow customer and UMS quality control procedures.

Identify poor quality issues and escalate concerns when needed.

Accurately input customer/job information for machine setup and billing.

Troubleshoot minor issues and notify technicians/managers for larger problems.

Support mail processing duties when needed; this role must be versatile.

Route Driving (Backup Coverage)

Safely drive assigned route(s) and transport mail between customers, USPS, and UMS facilities.

Provide professional customer service during pickups and deliveries.

Load/unload mail containers into trucks/vans safely and efficiently.

Report customer concerns, route issues, or vehicle problems promptly.

Follow all UMS driver safety policies and procedures.

Drive safely and confidently in all weather conditions.

Follow all UMS policies, including attendance, punctuality, harassment, drug/alcohol, safety, and security policies.

Work independently and adapt when daily production priorities shift.

Be dependable and show up to work on time every day.
