Lead Tool and Die Maker

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan

Work Distribution: 10–20% BTS facility in Grand Rapids / 50–60% customer facilities / 20–30% remote from your home

Company: Banyan Tooling Systems (BTS), the China division of Tooling Systems Group (TSG) that works closely with Guo Ji Tooling Systems (GTS)

Job Summary

Banyan Tooling Systems is seeking an experienced Lead Tool and Die Maker to support customer homeline buy-offs at both in-house and customer facilities. If you are confident, highly knowledgeable in all types of metal stamping dies, willing to travel, and are not afraid to make decisions, we want to talk to you.

Why is this position different than the rest?

This role is unique because it prioritizes results and accountability over strict office hours, giving you the flexibility to manage personal tasks while being available when your presence is needed. We do not have a time clock. When the work is done, there is no need to stay. This is a salaried position, and our goal is to get things done quickly and efficiently. On the other hand, if staying longer than planned to complete a task is necessary then that is what will need to happen.

Schedule & Travel

Work varies between shop tasks and travel assignments, depending on needs at that time.

This is a full-time position, but hours will vary depending on the current workload.

If traveling, most trips are just a day or two, but can be as much as a week on occasion. We like being home on the weekends and expect that you do too.

Travel required, primarily throughout North America, with international travel a possibility.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain a safe work environment and consistently use required PPE

Demonstrate a professional, can-do attitude and work effectively as part of a team

Confidently troubleshoot new tool startups at customer facilities, often seeing the tool for the first time

Read and interpret part prints, including GD&T requirements

Collaborate with customers to ensure successful tool buyoffs

Efficiently manage and support 1–2 tool and die makers

Prioritize customer satisfaction as a key measure of success

Required Qualifications

10+ years of Tool and Die Maker experience

Journeyman Tool and Die Maker certification

High school diploma or equivalent

Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport

Eligible for domestic and international travel

Ability to obtain and manage a company credit card and submit expense reports

Preferred Qualifications

Basic computer skills

Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint (preferred)

Experience using CAD viewers

Strong ability to read blueprints and GD&T

Comprehensive knowledge of toolroom equipment and hand tools

Welding experience preferred but not required (training provided)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

Manufacturing environment with moderate to loud noise levels

Prolonged standing and walking

Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
