The Maintenance and Distribution Officer is primarily responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all Samos Volunteers buildings and vehicles.

This role focuses on building repairs, plumbing, electrical work, and general upkeep, and includes supervising volunteers in maintenance and construction projects.

The officer will also support warehouse and distribution tasks as needed.

We offer a stipend of 200 EUR to cover personal expenses and free accommodation in a shared room in one of our volunteer houses on Samos.

Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to: 1) Building and Facility Maintenance ( 75% of role): Conduct routine maintenance and repairs of community spaces (Alpha Centre, Alpha Land, warehouse, and volunteer houses), including furniture, doors, windows, tents, and fixtures.

Perform or supervise plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks, and coordinate with external specialists when needed.

Maintain vehicles, including regular mechanic visits, cleaning, and minor repairs.

Lead and manage volunteers in construction, repair, and maintenance projects.

Plan, schedule, and prioritize maintenance tasks to ensure all facilities are functional, safe, and welcoming.

Ensure the safety and security of all buildings (e.g., checking fire extinguishers, emergency exits). 2) Warehouse and NFI (Non-Food Items) Distribution ( 25% of role): Support operations of the free shop, ensuring fair distribution of items to all beneficiaries.

Act as security focal point for the warehouse in the absence of the coordinator.

Maintain warehouse cleanliness and organization.

Assist in procurement and sorting of NFI donations.

Supervise volunteers in warehouse and distribution tasks.

Key Requirements: Minimum commitment of 2 months.

Strong building, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance skills.

Experience supervising teams or volunteers.

Experience in logistics, NFI distribution, or warehouse management is a plus.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Strong organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Understanding of the complexity and challenges of humanitarian work; experience in a similar organization is an advantage.

Driver’s license.

Fluent in written and spoken English.
