About the Role:

The Automation Engineer will serve as a workflow builder responsible for automating metadata ingestion, validation processes, governance enforcement, and compliance workflows across Federal healthcare data governance initiatives. This role focuses on developing and implementing automated solutions that streamline data management operations while ensuring security, compliance, and quality controls are embedded throughout the automation lifecycle.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Design and implement automated metadata ingestion workflows using government-provided Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, and R tools for systematic data extraction across diverse system types

Develop automated validation processes including completeness checks, accuracy verification, and quality scoring with automated alerts and issue flagging capabilities

Build governance enforcement automation including stewardship accountability workflows, approval routing, and metadata quality monitoring with Service Level Agreement (SLA) tracking

Create compliance workflow automation ensuring Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Federal regulatory, and organizational requirement adherence with automated reporting

Implement automated metadata harvesting capabilities targeting schemas, data elements, relationships, lineage indicators, and quality signals across heterogeneous systems

Develop validation frameworks testing metadata accuracy against manual inventory findings using rule-based checks and human-in-the-loop validation processes

Build automated documentation generation workflows utilizing approved Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools with mandatory Subject Matter Expert (SME) review processes

Create automated quality checks and compliance monitoring including real-time dashboards, automated alerts, and remediation workflow triggers

Implement repository automation including intake workflows, approval routing, version control, and audit trail generation

Support federated catalog automation including metadata synchronization, schema mapping, and automated exchange processes with external systems

Required Professional Skills:

5+ years of experience in DevSecOps, automation engineering, or software development

3+ years of experience building automated workflows and business process automation

Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated deployment pipelines

Ability to translate technical knowledge into strategic recommendations

Proficiency in SQL, Python, and R for automated metadata extraction and processing

Understanding of Federal compliance frameworks and automated compliance monitoring

Preferred Professional Skills:

7+ years of experience in DevSecOps, automation engineering, or software development

5+ years of experience with enterprise automation and workflow orchestration

Ability to engage with various stakeholders verbally and in writing

Experience designing automated compliance and governance enforcement systems

Experience with SharePoint and PowerApps automation including Power Automate workflows

Knowledge of Application Programming Interface (API) development for system integration

Understanding of AI/ML tool integration and automated documentation generation

Experience with cloud-based automation platforms and containerized deployment methods

Education/Experience Requirements:

BA in computer science, software engineering, or information technology (MA preferred)

Active DoD High-Risk Public Trust designation (Active DoD security clearance preferred)

Technical certification(s) in compliance with DoD Directive 8140 (CompTIA Sec+, CISSP, CISM, CEH, etc.) is preferred

Current database certifications (such as AWS, Azure, CDMP, Oracle SQL, IBM DB2, etc.) are preferred.

Current automation certifications (such as AWS DevOps or ISA CAP) are preferred
