Description
The City of Upper Arlington is seeking a motivated and creative Communications Intern to support the City’s Communications Division during the summer months. This paid internship offers hands-on experience in a fast-paced local government environment and is ideal for a college student interested in communications, marketing, public relations, graphic design, video production, or media.
The Communications Intern will assist with developing content and materials that promote City events, services, and initiatives — including the Bob Crane Community Center, UA Performance Series, community events, and public information campaigns. The intern will work closely with communications professionals and contribute to projects that directly serve and engage the Upper Arlington community.
This position will function primarily at the Municipal Services Center, 3600 Tremont Road, Upper Arlington, OH 43221. Business hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. The internship will run for approximately 10–14 weeks during the summer of 2026 (May–August) and is approved for up to 32 hours per week. Examples of Duties
The Communications Intern will assist the City’s Communications Division in developing marketing and communication materials to promote City events, services, and initiatives, including the Bob Crane Community Center, UA Performance Series, and other community programs.
Responsibilities will include:
Creating digital content for web and social media platforms
Designing print marketing materials
Supporting video production and editing tasks
Collaborating with the Communications team on creative projects
Typical Qualifications
Current enrollment in a college or university pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, graphic design, media, or a closely related field.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
Interest in or experience with digital content creation, including social media, graphic design, photography, or video editing.
Familiarity with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro), Canva, or similar design and video platforms is preferred.
Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Willingness and availability to work occasional evenings and weekends to support City events and activities.
A creative, dependable, and self-motivated individual eager to gain real-world experience in municipal communications.
