Job SummaryThis role carries a primary mandate - building the wholesale Commercial Property Finance (CPF) portfolio for corporates within the CIB. The CIB team holds the responsibility for managing all relationships across this client set.
The ideal candidate should apply strategic direction and banker leadership to implement the Bank's ambition of growing and diversifying its Commercial Property Finance book. The ideal candidate should lead with a franchise-builder mindset: help deepen and defend primary relationships, expand wallet share and operate as the “go-to” property finance banker in Mauritius —partnering closely with the Head of Debt and CPF to re-energise the team, sharpen coverage discipline, and position the bank as the premier commercial banking partner in Mauritius.
The successful candidate will also assist in general debt finance solution delivery from time to time.
Job Description
Franchise leadership & strategy execution
Execute the vision and strategy of the bank and the group in the long-term financing solutions delivery; translate strategy into clear origination themes, call plans and account plans by segment and client.
Assist in the Commercial Property Finance coverage for corporate clients across sector coverage partners; coordinate multi-product solutions within risk appetite.
Monitor and lift market share, client retention, satisfaction and profitability; redeploy effort to opportunities with the highest risk-adjusted returns.
Origination & growth (new-to-bank and existing)
Originate, qualify and convert a robust pipeline of CPF debt opportunities (development, construction/interim, term, acquisition finance and corporate-level facilities), and cross-sell Markets, DCM and Transactional Banking solutions.
Lead relationship acquisition from competitor banks through differentiated insight, speed of execution and solution quality; own the end-to-end journey from pitch to onboarding.
Portfolio defense & client excellence
Protect and grow the existing book via disciplined coverage rhythms and forward-looking reviews anchored in development pipelines, refinancing and asset-management plans.
Set the tone on responsiveness and service quality (TAT/issue resolution); ensure clients experience a seamless “one-bank” interface.
Deal leadership, structuring & credit
Lead evaluation, structuring and execution across asset classes (logistics, retail, office repositioning, residential rental/student, mixed-use, specialty) including LTV/DSCR/covenant design, sensitivity analysis, feasibility and exit strategies.
Assist in the evaluation, structuring and execution of general corporate debt finance transactions for both onshore and offshore clients from time to time.
Ensure delivery of high-quality credit submissions; present to Credit as required; ensure pricing and risk-return thresholds meet economic-profit targets.
Coordinate due diligence (legal, technical, valuation), negotiate terms and conditions precedent, and drive flawless closing with Credit, Risk, Legal and Operations.
Internal collaboration & product enablement
Build trusted, proactive partnerships with Credit early in the solutioning process to shorten cycle times and improve approval certainty.
Orchestrate multi-product delivery with Capital Markets, risk management, Transactional Banking and Investment Banking to deliver holistic solutions to corporate property finance clients.
People leadership & culture
As one of the bankers in a team, coach, uplift and role-model high-performance coverage behaviours (call discipline, account planning, pipeline hygiene, credit craftsmanship and client listening).
Help the Head re-establish purpose and momentum; embed a client-first, outcomes-oriented culture with clear standards and continuous feedback.
Risk, conduct & governance
Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework
Successful candidate will have:
A minimum of 5 years banking experience in commercial property and / or general debt finance.
Evidence of strong coverage experience with listed/unlisted/family-owned corporates and large owner-managers; comfort navigating complex shareholding dynamics and demonstrated ability to win and execute transactions end-to-end, present to relevant forums (e.g. Credit) and manage multi-stakeholder closings.
Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Accounting, Finance, Investment and Business Studies or equivalent (Required). Civil Engineering or Quantity Surveying qualifications and experience would be an advantage.
