Job SummaryThe Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and continuously improving manufacturing processes to ensure products are produced safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards.
This role works closely with Design Engineering, Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to optimize fit, form, function, cost, and manufacturability while supporting Lean and continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.Essential Duties and Responsibilities\nDetermine and develop manufacturing processes, equipment requirements, tooling, and workflows to produce products in an economical and efficient manner while maintaining fit, form, function, and quality standards.\nCollaborate with Design Engineering to improve product designs for manufacturability, cost reduction, quality enhancement, and production efficiency.\nLead and support process improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.\nProvide clear documentation, work instructions, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to support production teams.\nTrain and communicate process changes, new equipment usage, and revised work methods to supervisors and shop personnel.\nInvestigate, evaluate, and recommend new equipment, tooling, or technology to improve manufacturing processes, safety, capacity, and quality.\nProcess Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) in a timely manner and ensure effective communication of changes to all affected departments.\nReview and process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), evaluating the impact on safety, quality, cost, and production efficiency to ensure changes align with company objectives.\nAnalyze current and proposed manufacturing processes to identify and implement improvements that enhance workplace safety and ergonomics.\nSupport root cause analysis and corrective actions related to production issues, quality concerns, and process deviations.\nPartner with Production, Quality, and Maintenance teams to resolve manufacturing challenges and reduce downtime, scrap, and rework.\n\nQualificationsEducation & Experience\nBachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.\n2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing or heavy fabrication environment preferred.\n\nKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities\nStrong understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication methods, and production workflows.\nExperience with Lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and process optimization.\nAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of material.\nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills.\nEffective communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with engineering, production, and shop personnel.\nProficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Syte-Line/SolidWorks systems preferred.\n\nBenefits:• Medical, Dental, Vision-multiple plans to choose from• Company paid Life Insurance• STD (Short Term Disability)• LTD (Long Term Disability)• 401(k)• Employee Assistance Program• Flexible Spending Account• PTO (Paid Time Off• Gain Share Bonus Program• Reimbursement for safety boots and prescription safety glasses• Tuition assistance• 9 company paid holidaysWho we are:1,000+ distributors and dealers, across North America11 major brandsIndustry-leading technology, management team, and performanceHigh quality products including military-spec dump bodies for the US Armed ForcesFederal Signal Corporation (NYSE: FSS) builds and delivers equipment of unmatched quality that moves material, cleans infrastructure, and protects the communities where we work and live.
