Pelican Events & Catering was opened in 1967 and has been an important part of Durham Region and the surrounding area since, offering catering options, event facilities, and rental items. In 2005 Pelican Events & Catering entered a new era with Chef Kumar Muraleetharan taking on ownership.

Under Chef Kumar’s leadership Pelican Events & Catering has been able to expand and continue to grow within the catering industry with the philosophy of “Food is a Labour of Love”.

Over the past 5 years, the business of Pelican Events & Catering entered the next level with the launch of the franchise program and central kitchen. To future-proof our business and leverage technology advantages, we have decided to launch an intelligence catering management system, hence we are looking for a software development manager to lead our development team to build, maintain and continuously optimize this system..

Job Summary

This is a full-time, permanent position. As the software development manager, you will be responsible for leading software development and system maintenance. Your responsibilities include the following:

Direct and manage daily software development operations to ensure efficiency

Plan, forecast and manage the budget and expenditure surrounding the development and system maintenance

Supervise the dev ops and ops team consist of computer analysts, engineers, programmers, technicians and other personnels

Design, establish and implement IT system policies and procedures

Meet with clients / franchisers to discuss & align system requirements, integration scope and processes, plus the related system specs & costing.

Coordinate different IT projects within the company and with external partners, including but not limited to system design and deployment of new IT systems and services

Responsible for compliance with software and hardware requirements, review operational reports to ensure compliance.

Authorise the development of products or services specification

Explore and develop robotic process automation when required

Job Requirements

A college degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline is required

2-3 years of software development experience is a must, experience in business & operation is a big plus

Familiar with a variety of programming languages, codes and processes. Up to date knowledge with the latest development software is a big plus

Exceptional troubleshooting skills and be able to assess quickly complex programming applications

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Business acumen is an asset.
