This position is located at Extension's Hillsborough County office in Goffstown, New Hampshire.

4-H School Program Assistant will help assist and facilitate in and out of school STEM lessons and other 4-H Pathway programming. The 4-H Program Assistant helps plan, implement, and evaluate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) programs for young people within schools. They work under the supervision of a Program Manager, collaborating to create engaging and educational STEM and 4-H Pathway activities. This role often involves mentoring youth, managing supplies, and seeking community partnerships to enhance program offerings.

N.H. 4-H programs are designed around a pathway model centered around national 4-H mission areas of STEM/agriscience, civic engagement, and healthy living. 4-H pathways are designed to engage youth in a sequential learning experience, enabling youth to build mastery of skill and knowledge as well as a sense of belonging to their community and world.

This position will have some night and weekend programmatic responsibilities due to the nature of working with community members, school employees and youth events outside of the school day. There is flexibility in the 15-20 hours worked weekly to accommodate community realities in programming.

Duties/Responsibilities

Program Development and Implementation (25%):

Assisting in the design and execution of STEM & 4-H Pathway activities and programs tailored to different age groups in schools.

Supervision and Mentorship (10%):

Providing guidance and positive role modeling for youth participants while ensuring a safe and engaging environment utilizing 4-H's hands-on educational model.

Resource Management (10%):

Maintaining program supplies, equipment, and materials, and seeking out resources to support program growth.

Community Engagement (20%):

Building relationships with community partners, schools, and other organizations to expand opportunities for youth participation. Attending parental and community resource fair engagements.

Evaluation and Reporting (10%):

Assessing the effectiveness of STEM & 4-H Pathway programs and activities, by administering and collecting surveys and providing reports to the Program Manager .

Program Promotion (5%):

Helping to promote STEM & 4-H Pathway programs and activities including 4-H Clubs and Events to attract participants and engage families.

Professional Development (5%):

Participating in training opportunities to expand STEM & 4-H Pathway knowledge and improve program delivery.

Event Coordination (15%):

Organizing and hosting events, such as STEM festivals, to showcase youth creations and talents.

Requirements

Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., education, STEM) is often preferred.

Experience: Prior experience working with youth in a classroom or out of school program setting is valuable. Lesson planning and regular electronic and phone communication with school professionals, community-based organizations, and parents of program participants.

Required Licenses & Certifications:

Valid N.H. driver's license

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Computer and email skills, electronic presentations delivery experience

STEM Knowledge: A strong understanding of STEM concepts and principles is essential.

Organizational Skills: The ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and work independently is important.

Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed to interact with youth, staff, and community members.

Positive Attitude: A positive and enthusiastic approach to working with young people is crucial.

Flexibility: Time and Hours include day, evenings, and weekends based on events and meetings.

Compensation Pay Range:

$17.00 - $18.50 /hour
