As an EPC Telecom Engineer, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of telecommunications systems, from initial technical design to field commissioning and project closeout.
Core Responsibilities: Detailed Engineering: Design voice and data systems, including detailed architectural schematics and network diagrams.
Perform technical calculations and prepare deliverables like specifications, reports, and procedures.
- Develop detailed telecom infrastructure designs, including structured cabling (fiber/copper), high-speed network circuits, and rack layouts.
- Create technical specifications - Conduct Site Visits - Review technical documents - Sign and Seal Telecommunications Design packages - create Bill of Materials (BOM) from design drawings and specifications.
- Work with BIM designers to prepare telecommunications design packages.
Procurement Support: Prepare technical requisitions for hardware, software, and cabling.
Conduct technical evaluations of vendor bids, review vendor documentation, and oversee Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs). - Partner with supply chain teams to evaluate and select vendors for mission-critical hardware and cabling.
- Coordinate equipment purchasing, shipping, and inventory management for large-scale deployments.
- Manage vendor relationships and ensure materials meet quality and code standards.
Construction & Field Oversight: Provide technical support to construction teams, resolve field change requests (FCDs), and work with APM's to manage subcontractors.
Ensure installations comply with project specifications and safety (HSE) standards.
- Oversee on-site installation activities, including fiber splicing, rack-and-stack, and network circuit turn-ups.
- Track project milestones, manage change orders, and conduct site inspections to ensure "right first time" execution.
- Support commissioning and testing to verify system readiness before operational handover.
Project Management: Interface with construction PM's, design PM's, Vendors, Clients and other engineering disciplines to ensure system consistency.
Essential Skills & Job Requirements.
Technical Proficiency: Expertise in Fiber Optics, IP-based systems, wireless technology, and Cisco IOS/XR or Junos operating systems.
Problem Solving: Ability to diagnose complex network issues and develop disaster recovery plans.
Coordination: Strong communication skills for liaising between vendors, clients, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Thorough knowledge of industry standards such as BICSI, ANSI/TIA, and NEC.
Excellent project management skills.
Familiarity with responding to RFP's Proficiency with Bluebeam.
Proficiency in optical transport systems (10G-100G). Proficiency with reading and interpreting testing results for different telecommunications technologies.
Experience in providing Quality Assurance and checking of telecommunications systems designed by others Experience with start-up and commissioning of telecommunications systems Experienced in creating a budget for a project.
Experienced in creating and maintaining a project schedule Experienced in identifying and mitigating company risk Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Telecommunications, or Computer Science from an ABET-accredited institution.
Experience: 6 - 8 years' experience working on EPC projects or a combination of experience working for MEP design firm and installation contractor.
Travel: This position will require at least 25% travel.
