Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and disciplined Night Shift Maintenance Technician to maintain and protect our $7.5 million SSI e-waste shredding system.
This is not a general maintenance position. This role carries direct responsibility for the uptime, safety, and mechanical integrity of our primary production asset. The individual in this position will operate independently, respond to critical breakdowns, and ensure the shredder system performs at peak efficiency throughout the night shift.
Downtime equals lost revenue. This position is accountable for preventing it.
Core Responsibility: Asset Protection & Uptime
The SSI shredder is the heartbeat of our facility. This technician is expected to:
Maintain high equipment uptime and reliability.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical failures quickly and accurately.
Prevent catastrophic failures through proactive inspection and preventative maintenance.
Protect critical components including rotors, cutter stacks, screens, shafts, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, and drive assemblies.
Identify early warning signs of failure (vibration, amperage spikes, abnormal noise, heat patterns).
Key Duties
Advanced Mechanical Maintenance
Replace bearings, motors, couplings, shafts, seals, and heavy wear components.
Perform alignment, torque verification, and structural repairs.
Conduct cutter stack inspections and component swaps.
Perform welding and fabrication repairs as required.
Electrical & Controls
Troubleshoot 3-phase motors and high-amperage systems.
Diagnose electrical panels, relays, sensors, overloads, and safety circuits.
Work around PLC-controlled equipment (troubleshooting required).
Strictly enforce lockout/tagout procedures.
Hydraulics & System Integrity
Diagnose and repair hydraulic pumps, cylinders, valves, and pressure systems.
Monitor hydraulic temperature and pressure consistency.
Identify leaks and inefficiencies before failure occurs.
Downtime Response & Accountability
Respond immediately to production stoppages.
Perform structured root cause analysis on major failures.
Communicate clearly with Night Shredder Lead and Operations.
Document repairs and preventative maintenance accurately.
Recommend improvements to reduce recurring breakdowns.

High mechanical competency.
Independent decision-making under pressure.
Strong sense of urgency.
Ownership mindset.
Professional communication and accountability.
This is a high-trust, high-expectation position within a fast-paced industrial environment.
Qualifications
7+ years industrial maintenance experience (heavy machinery required).
Experience working on industrial shredders or similar heavy-duty systems strongly preferred.
Advanced mechanical troubleshooting ability.
Strong knowledge of 3-phase electrical systems.
Hydraulic systems experience required.
Welding and fabrication experience required.
Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics.
Ability to work nights with minimal supervision.
Physical Requirements
Lift 75+ lbs.
