Job Summary
Battelle's Defense and Material Solutions Business Unit is seeking an Entry-Level Analog Electric Power Engineer with a focus on Power Systems. This position is based in Columbus, OH.
The selected candidate will aid in the design, development, testing, and production of complex electronic and electromechanical systems, learning to troubleshoot and debug existing systems. You will be a vital part of a collaborative technical team comprising engineers, technicians, and support staff, assisting with tasks such as designing electrical schematics, compiling design and test data, and preparing technical specifications.
Responsibilities
Conduct basic engineering analyses and perform structured work assignments.
Design, fabricate, and integrate electronic systems as part of a team.
Test and troubleshoot electronic systems effectively.
Create and interpret electrical schematics.
Reverse-engineer electronic systems when necessary.
Compile and analyze collected data and draft various technical reports.
Complete project tasks efficiently within schedule and budget.
Build productive relationships with internal clients.
Contribute to Independent Research and Development (IR&D) studies.
Travel as required by project tasks.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited electrical/computer engineering program with a focus on power electronics.
Sole US Citizenship, willing to obtain and maintain a government TS/SCI clearance with CI Poly.
Physically fit for tasks that may include working from ladders and in confined spaces.
Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
Positive attitude, strong character, and readiness for technical challenges.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem-solving abilities and commitment to delivering quality results on time.
Solid understanding of basic electrical engineering concepts with the ability to learn quickly.
Familiarity with designing for EMI and noise reduction, proper grounding, analog sensor data acquisition, and analysis.
Knowledge of sensor signal conditioning, control systems, power supplies, electric motors, and related systems.
Experience with modeling and simulation tools, schematic capture, and PC-based analysis tools.
Proficient with standard lab equipment including oscilloscopes and function generators.
Experience with programming languages and tools such as C, MATLAB, Word, and Excel.
Comfortable working with AC and DC voltages up to 500V.
Preferred Qualifications
Current security clearance.
Additional experience in the electrical engineering field.
Familiarity with electrical engineering design tools such as Altium and Spice simulation tools.
Experience in embedded systems design and troubleshooting.
Experience in a lab environment including test preparation and documentation, soldering, and wiring.
Experience with underwater systems like sonar and propulsion.
Additional programming experience.
Experience with power electronics and high-frequency switching converters.
Experience with three-phase power systems.
Experience with Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSMs) and motor controllers.
Master's degree in power electronics or power systems.
