Inpatient Coder II

Summary:

Ability to code inpatient hospital accounts with extensive knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, ICD-10-CM/PCS coding and APR DRGs. Must be able to assess when an appropriate query should be written. Assists with developing strategic plans in line with health system goals as well as revenue cycle goals; capitalize on opportunities and manage associated coding and coding outcome risks. Assists with helping to set priorities as appropriate; takes initiatives based on knowledge, priorities and goals. Ability to perform basic math and statistical calculations.

Other information:

EDUCATION AND CREDENTIALS:HS Diploma or GED equivalent is required. Certification as a CCS, RHIT, or RHIA is required.

EXPERIENCE:Minimum of 2 years of progressive coding experience in inpatient coding is required. Previous experience with 3M, and EPIC is strongly desired.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Extensive, demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, and advanced mastery of ICD-10-CM and PCS coding systems.

Proven understanding and application of coding ethics, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards.

Detailed knowledge of revenue cycle functions and relational metrics.

Ability to abstract all required data elements via the 3M 360 Encoder and EPIC abstracting module for all patient visits.

Exceptional attention to detail in documentation review, code assignment, and data abstraction

Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and take initiative based on established knowledge and goals.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with the coding team and clinical documentation specialists.

Works with other team members in a manner that is consistent with Baptist Health System's Belief, Mission & Values

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with the coding staff, as well as other ancillary departments.

Assists with setting priorities as appropriate; takes initiatives based on knowledge, priorities and goals.

Ability to perform basic math and statistical calculations.

Commits to continually improving his/her coding skills by actively participating in all education session
